Well, I'm still waiting on a sticker to make it "official" but I figured I'd go ahead and post.

As a few of you may remember, I sold my 8 a couple years ago to get a 2000 B5 S4. I definitely missed the 8 but also enjoyed the S4 a lot. I ended up getting a job in Japan, so I've been trying to sell the S4 but needed to get something here.

For now, I'll just post a few hints:


Like the 8, it's not known for tons of power. It's uses a mid-engine, rear wheel drive layout. It has a relatively small engine and is light weight.

Any guesses?

As a side note: I can understand why cars like the FR-S/BRZ or MX-5 are so popular here. A lot of the roads are tiny. Most of the fun roads would be small, mountain roads. The rest of the time it's highways or small roads in towns. The highest speed limit I've seen near me is 50. That's km/h, not mph. It's frustratingly slow in any car.

 

The NSX is a hell of a car.

I thought S2000 since it is probably comparable to the 8.

 

For a car to qualify as mid engine the engine has to be behind the driver but in front of the rear axle, Toyota mr2 (which coincidentally stands for mid engine rear wheel drive) so the s2000 doesn't qualify. Neither does the 8.

 

Mid engine is when the engine is placed between the front and rear axles. That has always been my understanding. Here's what wikipedia has to say about it:

I was thinking front Mid Engine, which is what Mazda likes to say about their RX cars since they put the engine so far back it is behind the front axle.

I am no expert on the S2000 but I suspect Honda did the same with that car as well.

Yeah they did. The s2000 has a huge space under the hood. It's actually quite surprising when you open it for the first time lol.

 

That FMR and RMR designation is something I've never heard about before. Is that a recent thing?

Definitely not my first choice, but it was free and I needed something for going further distances or if I needed to carry something larger. Plus, it's much more convenient than a train for getting places. It almost has 40 horsepower and a 5 speed manual transmission. Like I said early, with the low speed limits and tiny roads, it's actually more than enough.

Now that I've settled in and have managed to save up a bit of money, I'm thinking I'll be getting something a little bit nicer in the not too distant future. This thing works, but it's basically at the point where it wouldn't seem worth investing any serious money in repairs, maintenance, registration/inspection costs, etc.

Again, it's nothing too fancy but it's definitely fun to go for a ride in the mountains on the weekends. I have another cheap bike that I use for getting around for stuff like work and groceries.
