Yes, F1 is quite amazing.. Rumour has it that some of the the new V8 F1 engines (new regulations for '06 calls for V8 engines) are rev'ing at over 20,000 RPM.. I believe they will be producing just under 800 hp before too long. Quite an achievement for a 2.4L NA-V8.

Amazing everytime you see it.
I still laugh at some that don't have their ears plugged or covered. Kinda of like the fans that stand in the Top Fuel pits while they prep the cars. The entire crew has ear plugs and gas mask....yet 5 feet from the engine are a bunch of beer guzzling pot belly guys grinning and watering at the eyes.
lol

The max rpm i seen in an F1 on tv was 25000 rpm, I don't like the way F1 is going (just me ok), there's not much dogfight anymore besides position change in pit. I prefer the GT races especially JGTC, dump fast cars and slow cars together. Sorry for hijacking...

Just watched the first race. There was a lot of passing and much drama. I think if you haven't seen F1 in a few years you should give it another shot.
Best of all from this race... Ferrari got beat again
I love watching Ferrari lose, and it's nice to see Renault doing well yet again.

Are you guys kidding me?24,25K revs
20,000 is the max for F1 engines, and they don't race that way because of rules that stipulate 1 engine for the whole weekend of racing.

Since the bore is limited to only 98mm, the revs are not going to increase, unless a breakthrough alien space metal is found.

Excuse me, the one I saw was during a race and it has in fact rev up to 22k+ and the redline is about 25k. I'm just telling you what I saw and I'm sure its 22k+ I saw plus I have no difficulties understanding about stresses on engine with regards to rpm limit.

Since bore is limited to 98mm, the maximum stroke to be at the 2.4 limit, would be 39.772 mm.
So 20,000 rpm would be 26.5 m/s average piston speed. Fine for playing with the dyno.
