However, I forsee myself going with HKS 264 cams, bigger intercooler and injectors (already upgraded the fuel pump- forgot to mention that before) next year, as the mod bug seems to bite a lot! After that, maybe a small (good on pump gas) upgraded turbo with stock-level spool-up and perhaps a nice set of coilovers (JIC and several others make a nice set that seems to work well with the EVO), but that's a wishlist, we'll see what happens!
That's cool, I think some people here are under the impression that the Evo is a drag car. I've explained that while it can do it well it is a car that is phenomenal in the twisties. I like my RX-8 but I definitely miss the way the Evo holds the road and inspires confidence on windy roads.

The EVO is a very commanding car. Hell, I almost went home with one, except my dad and I agreed not to have another 4-door car. Imagine if the RX-8 had the type of power the EVO did. It already has just about the same grip. Only time will tell.

I'm not sure how much of the limitation is due to the stock ecu or the turbo, but both are pretty expensive mods (unless you go with a flash, which may not work well with a big turbo).

Yeah. The ECU is programmed to minimize easy power gains on the STI. It requires programming the ECU to accept more power. I think it's a blessing in disguise, and can help prolong life of car. If you slap boost controller on an STI, you'll only be able to raise about 2psi before the ECU cuts out your fuel. The EVO already comes with a boatload more boost, and a much higher speed limiter. This generally is because Subaru decided to make the STI a more driver friendly every day car, and Mitsubishi just wants to go all out. Time will tell if Subaru will try and compete with the MR, or if they will stick to their plan of a capable car that compensates daily driveability over performance. Mazda has currently taken same route, but we'll see if they cave into the competition, and bring the rx8 to life to compete with their biggest rivel, the 350z.

Not even a close comparison in performance by any stretch of imagination. However, that's now what the rx8 is all about, and to me it's a better overall car then any Evo or STI.

How about then we race my Eagle against your STi, Ill even give you a head start..

Point ? Anything can be made fast. Dont drive an RX-8 because you will never want to get back into your imprezza again. The 8 has ruined driving the Talon for me pretty much. It really is the poor man's 911.
