Enjoying my final days with the 8...
Got a deal inked to trade it in for a 2011 BMW 1-Series M Coupe. Now that I know I am trading it in, I am finding all the things I will miss the most. I have never tired of tossing this car into corners, and love how it seems to fit like a glove. I hope the 1M will feel the same way, (only with piles of torque!)

Can't argue with you . . . I really had a hard time making the decision. My 8 is an 05, and was showing it's age with little things, and I even considered buying a new R3 while waiting for the next rotary car, but this temptation got the best of me. In about 5 years, I will buy whatever has a 1.6L rotary in it, as long as the car has all the bugs worked out of it.

You mean this
Check the MPG, that's the same EVO above in stock turbo at 21 psi.
Car and Driver said it well enough: "Obviously, both have their faults. The EVO is rough, raucous, and a little cheap inside. The RX-8 has about as much low-end torque as a roller skate. And each offers compromised cargo capacity and guzzles gas at bank-breaking levels. So, think of it this way. When you can't fit much junk in the trunk and the gas bill makes you cry, just realize you now know what it's like to drive an exotic."

Sorry you have to give up your 8, but the 1M is one of the most exciting cars to come out in awhile so you made a decent (and expensive!) choice. Its way out of the RX-8 price range actually. Post some pics when you get it and a review!

Still waiting, but I will try to post pics when it arrives. For now, still enjoying the last few days with the 8.

As sports cars go, the 1M retains a lot of touring car usability. Yet on the performance side, reviewers have a hard time choosing between the 1M and the Cayman R which costs about 10k more and doesn't come with a radio or A/C.

LOL, I have read all of the reviews and watched every review vid out there. From your comments, I know exactly which ONE you have seen. Try checking out the other 46. I'll take an M3 competition package chassis under a lighter 1-series body any day.

I was thinking about trading my 135i in for a 1M but somehow I ended up with an R3!
Anyway since the 1M isn't much different than the 135i (a lot of the part numbers are actually identical) you WILL have understeer compared to the RX8. It's just the geometry of the car. The power is nice though, but it all depends on your intended usage. Strangely I don't miss it too much, maybe I'm just weird =)

Sorry to see you go, I hope you enjoy the new ride. I looked for an RX-8 replacement but just could not find anything outside of Porsche that excited me much so I decided to get a built motor and go turbo

I am not sure understeer will be a problem, the chassis is completely different than a 135.
I have put 50 miles on the car. I am still getting used to it, but can't see understeer being a problem. The car is really well balanced and the power delivery is awesome. I am going to properly break it in, so it will be a few months before I can really play around.
So far, I am impressed. It is 350 pounds heavier than the RX8, but feels as nimble. It combines the touring comforts of my 8 with raw power (and none of the drawbacks) of the STI I had before. Loving it.
