You all know that any car that has airbags also have a "black box" that police can use to determine a great deal of things about the car that happened in/during a crash. Things including throttle position, vehicle speed, application of brakes and brake force. There are a number of groups fighting over who has access to this information. It will become an interesting topic in the near future.

Speed limit is the primary cause of the traffic jams we have anyways, why artificially limit the speed of the road when the max allowable flow of traffic is a lot higher...

They put in the digital speed limit signs so they could adjust the speed to control traffic flow...ie higher speeds durring good conditions, lower speeds durring bad. It makes sense on paper, but the idots in charge are not using them well. The old static speed limit signs read 55mph thru most of the city, with a few areas at 50mph.
I notice that most of the time the speeds are the same as they used to be, although they do sometimes raise the speed limit to 55 on the whole section thru town, or lower it to 50 thru the whole section.
Yesterday I noticed that even though it was light traffic, sunny, and clear, the speed limit was lowered to 50mph, and a few weeks back, in the middle of the night, with patches of fog around, the speed limit was 55mph in the same section.
They need to take note of the conditions better, IMO.
There are also those digital info signs every few miles on I4, the ones that tell you about traffic/crashes/delays ahead. Most of the time they tell you the distance to a exit, and the travle time for the current conditions.
Yesterday I was reading the signs and with no traffic it was pretty simple : "FL TURNPIKE 15MI - 15 MIN TRAVLE TIME" - "528 TOLL 10MI - 10MIN TRAVEL TIME" ect
So from reading the signs, traffic should be moving at 60mph, but the speed limit on the digital signs read 50mph.....so am I supposed to drive 50 or 60? in a cops eyes that up to 1 point and 100+ bucks if Im caught speeding. I know they could just be using round numbers, but its still funny.
None of this really matters as people on I4 (durring light/no traffic) drive at 70-80mph in the city, and out of the city its not un common to see packs of cars doing 80-90+mph

I currently sell a product that you spray in the air while listening to your home stereo. It'd $95.00 and I claim that it improves the inage and soundstage of you cd's and dvd's. All the audiophiles love it. I've sold thousands of bottles of the magic stuff. I will soon have a new product that you can spray on you car to thwart police radar, and gps tracking abilities. I'll post the price as soon as i figure out how much people are willing to pay.

That device would cause accidents and headon collisions when passing slow traffic. could also prevent a car from accellerating out of a dangerous situation. Auto company's would boycot it.
They could put rpm governors on cars right now if they wanted to. Would limit the speed a car could travel in each gear. But they have'nt. People will not buy high performce cars if that was done. The system will probably be used for company fleet cars, taxies etc. You'll never see it law for private vehicles.

We (drivers) set the speed limit.
The best speed limit is set at the 85-90th percentile.
