CX-5 Diesel: Is it coming to the U.S. or not (conflicting info)?

I honestly can't get an accurate answer - at least by the methods I've tried in searching for an answer - as to whether Mazda will or will not bring the diesel version of the CX-5 to the United States.

Does anyone have the answer from a credible source as to this question?

Thanks.

Check out the cx-5 thread. Paul @ Mazmart confirmed as best as we can that yes, it will, though not for 8 to 18 months after has version. Timing is subject to change of course

I'll believe it when I see it on the lots... My prediction is that Canada will get the Sky-D and the US will get the usual "based on market research..." baloney.

(Dear Mazda: please prove me wrong)

This one you don't have to worry about. It is absolutely coming. They would be making great sales on it now if they could sell it now. The market is more than there with fuel prices rising. I don't think the factory production is up to handling much more than the European demand. The Japanese demand for the diesel has exceeded expectations multiple times over. I think the plan is underway to up capacity in time for early next year so that the North American market (Including USA) can get the diesels.

Paul.

Mazda remains the only Asian auto maker committed to bringing modern clean-diesel technology to the United States.
And the CX-5 is the only diesel in their lineup at the moment (expect that to change over time)

We should have a diesel Takeri (Mazda 6) in 2014 as well.

Pretty much every publication about the new Mazda diesel and the CX5 in general states an expected 2013 (spring) availability for the Diesel CX5 in CONUS. Heck, that was out before the CX5 was even available for purchase...

wouldn't it be hilarious if the mpg figures drop by 20mpg like the rx8 hp numbers did?

edit: I'm not saying hp numbers are rated in mpg. I meant drop drastically

And even after the drop, the number is still inflated....

Then after the CX-5 we need a Mazda 6 coupe with Sky-D.

Heck, make the Mazda 2 with the SkyActiv-D.
That would be an interesting little car.

BC.

She is on her way (The Skyactiv diesel), both for the CX-5 and the all new Mazda 6.

ANyone else thinks the Sky-D will debut in America with the new Mazda 6 first before the CX-5? One package can be optioned with the 2.0 and the higher packaged one can be optioned with the Sky-D?

Uh, nope. The CX-5 diesel will be here as a 2013 model, the 6 will be here as a 2014 model. Both next year. The CX-5 diesel is already in production, the 6 is not(?), and the diesel is already in other countries, so less to get it here than the 6.

And I expect we will follow a similar method of options as the UK (though probably a bit less flexible), where you can get the diesel or gas high power or low power, fwd or awd, at or mt for all but a couple of those combos. Like I think in the UK you can only get the low power gas with fwd manual, but most of the rest of the combos are viable, including high power diesel (190hp 310tq) in awd manual

Probably going to be less open for us though
