You mean these things:

Hanzo, you're looking for these:

Look at the picture of the revised 300B. Sure the caption says that they were removed because they skirted FIAs new rules, but you have to think that aesthetics played some role. Watching ugly-a$$ cars turn laps isn't good for business...

Way to misrepresent something, it's using 85% of the production car's body...

I have never seen those before, I don't think they ever raced with them probably tested. They sure are ugly but hey if it helps to win the sponsors don't care.

Boozehound, they're called "x-wings". the reason they're outlawed is because of "safety" (too much grip, yadda yadda), so they disallowed use of a wing proper (composed of a few aerofoil elements), but still allow flip-ups, single aerofoil wings (at a lower height than before), dams, channels and venturis.

Safety's the story, but do you really think it'd make for good ratings to have the "x-wings" running on every car (making them hideous)? If Lada had a racing series that was comprable to F1, would anyone wanna watch?

Ike - I guess you wanted to see: "Retains 85 percent of 2005 Mustang’s body components and reinforced versions of the race-inspired suspension designs." So it uses a new powertrain, has a gutted interior, a cage, and moderately reworked suspension. The point was that it started life essentially as a GT.

My entire point here is that either it's a race-car and damn-the-looks, or it's a SHOW car intended to generate excitement. It does have racing implications down the line, BUT this particular car and it's look may not have anything to do with whatever racecars Ford chooses to produce. As such, I think they could've produced something better looking. It's all subjective.

I like it! But I don't like the fact that this Mustang is leaning towards a more Japanese look. American Musclecars don't go that route and shouldn't. It just doesn't fit right.

Yes, rip out the interior, install a roll cage, racing seats, and remove all luxury items. Find a real race car that has these luxury items. The stripped interior, blower, and upgraded suspension may not be enough to constitute a track car but its a hell of a lot closer than the Mustang GT.

Now why do you gotta bash the RX8...no where in this discussion did anyone compare it to the 8, so why would even bring the 8 into this...and actually in the April 2003 Car and Driver the RX8 destroys the SVT Cobra in everything but speed

I don't see it being japanese. If you are talking about the carbon hood they used to do that with muscle cars except with fiberglass.
