Over here, EVO X are sitting pretty on the lots. Not moving. It is priced similar to a 135i. And guess which one is moving off the showroom floor? It still looks like an economy car to the regular public.
People want cars that can do both well. Be a speed-demon and yet able to drive to a posh location with class. Doing just one is not enough.

What are you talking about? Comparing an EVO to a BMW in sales is rediculous.
A BMW will of course sell more than a more niche market Evo..Do you think college girls or older women would cross shop those two cars? Although there are many enthusiests buying the 135i, there are many more housewives/college girls/old men buying it. Just for the brand name.
Does not look like an econobox, even Clarkson, who drives exotics regularly, states that its awesome. So did you buy your 8 solely on looks? Also where are you located? West coast seems to have better sales because of better overall prices.

Economy is also doing really bad, even though the price isn't sky high, the economy is making it hard for people to buy a "fun" car that isn't really a gas saver.

A lot of people scream about the looks (or lack there of) when it comes to cars like the Evo/STi, but to me, it's the look of function first, form later that appeals to me. These cars were, after all, born from rally cars which were modified average cars transformed into flared-fender monsters with just enough body modification and aero bits to ensure top performance - not exotic car like styling to appeal to the masses. What looks good about them is the fact that they sport just enough body tweaks to house the larger wheels, intercoolers, turbo's or whatever to let you know this car is packing some serious performance and is not your average economy sedan. Now I would say the Evo X has clearly taken the styling up a few notches and already looks good as the Lancer/GTS and when stepping up (way up) to an Evo looks even better for the reasons I mentioned earlier. Any real car enthusiast will recognize an Evo on the streets and immediately respect it regardless of it's donor car or basic shape and most would say it looks bad-*** for the simple fact of knowing what it can achieve or based on it's racing heritage. I know there are certain people hung up on a car's looks first (and perhaps the impression it gives off to others) but many others are not this way and can appreciate a car's looks based on what it can do. Not much can touch the Evo X/Sti overall performance wise, at that price regardless of major mods and like others said above, a factory warranted car such as the Evo is clearly more practical to most people than a voided warranty car with a shitload of major power mods added.

What so ridiculous about comparing the choice of buyers who would cross shop b/t an EVO or a 135i? Wasn't there a comparison thread recently? And you are quite wrong that housewives/college girls/old men will buy th 135i. they are likely to buy a 3-series than the 135i. You don't need a twin turbo inline-6 that looks like a pitbull if brand name is all one desires. A 328i will do nicely if not better.
The 135i has generated more buzz than the EVO X from the enthusiast folks. It also manage to enamoured those who are not into bi-wings and drilled bumpers too.
Clarkson also say the RX-8 is his Top 5 favourite car money can buy. So what does that mean?
Sure economy is bad in the States. But it doesn't just affect EVO sales. It affects everything. No one is denying the EVO's prowess. But people will vote with their wallets. Right now I am just stating the facts that local Mitsu dealerships' EVOs are sitting pretty in the showroom at the price Mitsu is asking for while 135i has a growing waiting list. Last check was 15 weeks.

Have you ever driven the X or the 135i? Pretty different cars to compare...only reason why they are used in magazine comparos is because they are similarly priced. You can get an Evo X for a bit over 30k base. 135i starts at 35k, thats base without the sport package (BMWs usually come with some sort of option ontop of the msrp). Performance? That twin turbo 6 sounds good especially with those chips, but do you know how expensive it is to mod? The Evo also beat the 1 series by 4 seconds or so around a track, thats murder.

Looks...hmm....the 1 series is by the ugliest BMW ever made. I cross shopped the 135i and the X and I did not like the looks. If you are calling the X "econobox" looking, then you obviously never seen it in person. Your argument revolves around the BMW looking better than the X, but both cars are meant for performance. Go to a dealer and test drive em both, come back and tell me which drives better. Did you buy your 8 for looks?

^ Note to self, EVO fanboi is still a fanboi.

You have obviously never read my posts on the EVO and 135i. EVO - much better improvement over previous plastic fantastic. 135i - ugly 3-series that got crushed by the Hulk. Please re-read below before launching into a fit. It was in response to the price discount that OP got. Geez... now I know how IKE feels.

As far as I can tell 135's are sitting on lots as well. Probably due to how heavily optioned almost all of them are. I did a dealer search last week and out of over 500 cars on lots there are only 13 of them that are under 40k and most of those are just barely under. I doubt there's a waiting list and I think your 15 week number is how long it takes to get a car ordered from Germany... It took about that long for my friend to get his A3 and those aren't exactly flying off the lots.

Both cars had a healthy amount of buzz but the Evo X buzz was pretty big (good and bad). I followed both cars closely since one or the other was pretty likely to be my next car. Probably the only car that generated more buzz in the last year is the GTR.
