Chrysler Four-Twelve

I went to the Houston Auto Show yesterday, and the car that blew me away was this one.

850 HP, 850 lb-ft. torque, 2880 pound curb weight.

Quad turbo V-12

0-60 in 2.9 sec

0-100 in 6.2 sec

And it's gorgeous.

yeah, too bad they're not producing any more. that is one beautiful car. But they are producing the scaled down version as the Chrysler Firepower! with the "!" as part of the name...

I do love that 412. Saw an article in R&T a few months back. There's a story in Car and Driver this month on the Firepower, they mention the 412 a couple of times. Imagine a half hour with the 412 at Laguna Seca. mmmmmmmmm

whoops, looks like I was beaten to the punch

The Firepower! probably will not be named that because of copyrights on the Firepower name. Maybe if they copyright it with (!) they can get around it.

I could never afford one anyway, I just like to dream. :D

If you went to the show last year, it is about the same. Definitely worth a visit.

I liked the Carrera GT too. I don't remember that one being there last year.

Chrysler had the ME Four-Twelve up at Laguna Seca last August for the Historic Races. It was driven around the track for a few laps during one of the breaks, and the rest of the time it sat out on the grass in front of the Chrysler tent so folks (including me, I admit) could ogle and drool. It's a gorgeous, ruthless-looking exotic, right up there in the realm of Ferrari and Lamborghini -- too bad it won't be produced.

They produced a few, I guess. Somebody's got one.

Why should I care whether they make 2 or 2000? I ain't getting one anyway.

Isn't that the car that *would* be the fastest production street-legal car ever built? I read somewhere that it would take the Mclaren F1's title...

drool...

I don't see the point in them building this thing, it grabbed everyone's attention, can hang with all the big name exotics etc. looks absolutely stunning. why tease everyone like this? maybe they should build something awful as a concept, and then when the production model comes out have it look 1,000,000,..... times better. :D at least then, we wouldn't have to keep being disappointed over and over and over ......

I think they made their point. They did build (at least) one. It is a wonderful car. It would cost about 450K if they sold it. None of us would be able to afford one anyway, and we probably would not ever even get to sit in one, much less ride in it. I don't see why anyone here is disappointed that it's not going to be mass-produced. Enjoy it for what it is.

Tuned Porsche 911 hits 241mph

German tuner 9ff is claiming a new top-speed world record for road-registered cars of a blistering 241.1mph. The record, set by 9ff boss Jan Fatthauer in the company’s new 9F-V400, was achieved at the Nardo test track in Italy. It cracks the previous record of 240.1mph set by Andy Wallace driving a McLaren F1 in 1998.

Based on the 911 GT2, the 9F-V400 runs a heavily tuned twin-turbo 3.8 flat six-cylinder engine that’s claimed to pump out 828bhp at 7200rpm and 649lb ft of torque at 6450rpm. Among its highlights are forged titanium connecting rods, forged aluminium pistons, reworked KKK turbochargers, water-cooled intercoolers, an electrically regulated oil cooling system and a revised Bosch Motronic ME7.8 electronics package.

It is backed by a reinforced six-speed gearbox running unique ratios and working through a new three-plate clutch, a heavily revised aerodynamic package and a series of weight-saving measures; these include a carbonfibre roof, bonnet, engine lid, doors and mirrors. They bring the car’s weight down to a claimed 1300kg and provide it with a power-to-weight ratio of 637bhp per tonne.

9ff says it plans to produce up to 20 examples of the 9F-V400. Production of the first three cars is already at an advanced stage, according to Fatthauer, with the fourth – a right-hand-drive example destined for Japan – set to get underway next week. The price? A cool £278,000.

I call shinanigans. As you can see, they tuned a porsche. But, like RUF, they are a car manufacturer because they change so much of the cars. I think it's pretty lame, but records are records.

But that's a tuned car...? I thought the F1 was the fastest stock?

EDIT: I get it...they are actually manufacturing them.

Koenigsegg is claming 245 mph stock out of the factory.

The key there is they 'claim' it can do that speeds, they have never officially tested it.

Yeah, they can make up whatever imaginary numbers they want if they're not actually going to produce it.

Those aren't made up numbers, there are working prototypes that I'm sure they got times from.
