Car of the Week
Car of the Week
I have decided to start car of the week threads.
My self proclaimed great taste in motor vehicles has led me to start this thread and get opinions on some of histories great cars.
I want to hear some ratings too, 1-10.
I am only going to look a high performance cars because, well, for the most part, I just dont give a rats *** about tuner cars. I don't care how fast a civic is with a big fat turbo on it. You can polish a turd as much as you want, it is still a turd.
So with the thread premise out of the way, lets get to week 1
We will start out easy, with inspiration from the ferraris thread
The Ferrari F40

Personally, I have lusted after this car since I first laid eyes on it at Mosport in 1993.
Rating: 9.0

I saw one of these a few years back on the road. We were at Tysons Corner, VA and the F40 was at a stoplight. We were on the opposite side of the road at the light so we got a pretty good look of the front and side. The car barely fit in the lane. As we were sitting idle at the light in our rusted chevette, I told him that the Ferrari (a brand he never heard of) cost around $350k and he just couldn't believe any car could cost that much. He thought I was joking. I was in awe as the light went green and he drove by. You could easily hear the engine from across the street. Its one of those days you don't forget.
I believe it was developed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Ferrari. (hence F40).
I would give it a 9.

this car is definitely a 9.5...being a member of the 200+ mph an hour club is enough to get a 9, the rest comes from the thing i had a thing for this car when i was a kid and its simple perfection, great lines classic look awesome performance...still awesome performance. I'd like to get my hands on one of these.
As you can tell from my Avatar I'm a huge Ferrari fan, but the F40 was never my favorite. Just never really liked the lines.
I really lusted after the car that preceeded the F40, the 288 GTO.
Anyways, I give the car an 8.0 --- 6 for being a Ferrari and another 2 for the performance.

I am a self-described...
...Ferrari-isti and Porsche-phile. The F40 definately deserves a ten in my book. To answer the question, this was the last car officially commisioned by the Commandedore (sp?) himself, Enzo Ferrari.
Had a chance to sit in one once...very spartan and specific: Nomax covered the seats, floor and dash, the pedals were huge and the controls were all so firm. But, that engine! Brute force to match what was an imposing presence.
This was, without a doubt, the most demanding car Ferrari ever made for public consumption...even more so than the famed GTOs.

Cool car, but very big/wide (physically) and not exactly pretty. If I had to choose an F-car from the 80's I would take the 288 GTO - Better looking, relative "Stealth" Ferrari (most people in the know will think it's a "lowly" 308), enough performance for what I need, smaller and more manageable in real life.
Still - a lot of good things in the F40 that they managed to ruin in the F50 and to a lesser degree Enzo.
Ron.

I'd give it a 9.
Its nice, but I was never too into ferrari. And this design while semi-eye pleasing is kind of sore around the rear. And it looks a tad dated...well like a 90s super car lol.
I've always liked the looks of smoother flowing ferrari's such as the modena and 575 (550)Maranello(sp?).
Plus if I was going for a ferrari it would have to be a 12cyl.
In the end there are a good # of "dream cars" that are in my line before that paticular ferrari, though it is still high up there

sorry shiggins i just like that car my family used to have an a.6 it was so comfartable but still firm and strong with the power.... It reminded me of teh movie ronin when i had the audi oh i miss it now and ronin is a greeat car chase movie.
This thread series is a awesome idea. But your first car is F40? What did you expect with this one? If it has a prancing horse it automatically gets an 8. Mated with the performance of this model, Id add 1.5 points. However, this is not anywhere near my favorite body style and no cup holders (lol), minus .5 points. Grand total is 9 IMO. Which seems to be the average vote.
BTW...Please dont limit this to supercars shiggins...youll get 9s every week.

I like this thread too, it should be fun.
I just wanted to start out with something easy, so lots of people commented on the car, lots of replies.
I'm not going to limit them to supercars necessarily, but certainly only high performance cars from all eras and countries. I certainly wouldnt be entertained rating a 72 Chevy Vega or a Turbo'd civic
