Bought Kawasaki Ninja 600 1994

Just bought a used bike $800 1994 Kawasaki Ninja 600cc. Body is in good shape but it has some minor issues. Runs well. I always wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle so here I go. Also it should get ~50+ MPG..not bad compared to the RX8. I just need to learn how to drive it now. 9,500 miles on it.

I was going to try to do the same, not too long ago, but I decided not to because I can't control my 'need for speed'. lol

I decided to stick to mtn biking. I get like OO mpg. !

Do you have the Ninja 600 or the ZX 6E? Regardless, I think the thing most ignore when buying a used motorcycle are the tires. Make sure they have plenty of tread and are not dry rotted on the side walls. Check air pressure frequently and inflate to specs.

I think the next thing to check is the braking system. Check the level and color of the fluid. It should be golden brown. Also check the pads and replace immediately, if they appear thin, with SBC or some other quality replacements. I found that over the years, working on motorcycles is relatively easy because every thing is small and relatively easy to remove and replace. Even most bodywork comes off easily, especially once you get used to peeling it off a few times.

From what I can recall, those bike had great throttle response, so enjoy your newfound economic transportation.

Oh, that is the Ninja 600. Nice!

Some pics

HCT thanks for the guidance. It only says 600R and Ninja on it. I can not even find the 600 website. I need to change the oil and stuff, the brakes are tight, and I want to change the plugs and stuff to.

And also it comes with duel cobra high flow exhaust system.

Congrats, and welcome to motorcycles. I think you'll get hooked. That model was first produced back in the 80's, so its a proven design. HCTR had some good points, I'd add check for chain condition, nothing worse than a broken chain when you're far away from home, or breaks when you need to merge.

You picked a good bike if you're starting to ride, but remember that bike can still do a 12 second quarter, so take it slow and stay out of traffic and you'll be fine. Confidence is something only earned with seat time, so ride often. Also, avoid temptation to ride with friends until you are fully comfortable on your own.

Eventually you'll get to a point where you'll feel as safe (or safer) on your bike than you do in your car.

I think Kawasaki finished production of that model in the mid 90's so you might not find an enthusiast's website for it.

Most riders in those days overlooked the 600 Ninja, which I think dates back to 85 (?), and bought the ZX 6E.

Those Cobra slip-ons are OK, but sometimes a carb jet swap is necessary to cure flat spots or stumbling. Look for a Dyno jet kit, they are the best. Also, be leery of picking up a jet kit on Ebay. About two years ago, I purchased a supposedly brand new Dyno jet kit for my ZX 11 D. Well, I took my bike to my local sportbike tuner to do the install. He calls me an hour later and says that the jets I bought were all the "stock" jets and not the ones that are supposed to be in the kit! I was really steamed.

I found this link with some info about you bike. Enjoy.
