I'll admit I don't know much about the older rx7 cause i was playing with v8's around that time.
Anyways I have a friend at work that wants to sell me a 1990 mazda rx7 (turbo) for 1,500$ He says it has no rust or dents on it and it was running before he pulled the carb off and so on, but he has all the parts in the trunk.
Can anyone tell me more about this year car? Were they junk compared to later years and so on?
I'm gonna look around the web more and try to find some info, but for this price I might pick it up for a project. Any help would be great thanks.

The FC never came with a carb. All the RX7's with the 13b engine had EFI. I never owned a FC but this would be one of the later years. I believe they only made them till 91. They skipped a year and came out with the FD.
I would hit it if the engine ran.

yeah as mentioned above no carb on any 2nd gen RX-7... they all were FI or Turbo FI.

Typical price for a non running FC is $500-$1200. Unless it is a Turbo, or has really low miles I would not offer more than $1000.

The FC was probably one of the most reliable RX-7's although the S5 (89-91) are a little less reliable as Mazda did some short cuts on the car to try and keep costs down. It is not unusual for a good example to last 200K miles with the original motor, although a poorly maintained version will not make it past 75K miles.

humm I just guessed it was carb cause he said something about the holley is off.
I need to ask him more about it I guess.

My first rotary powered car was a 2nd gen RX-7 and it remains my favorite. It was a good car. There were some quirks about it that people would bitch about if they are unaware of them but the people that have owned them learn what they are and just deal with it. The engine is pretty tough. I couldn't kill mine and by the way I treated it, you'd have thought it should have died.

A carb conversion was popular with people who couldn't figure out how to fix the fuel injection system. It also picked up power over the stock fuel injection system. That is until standalone fuel injection came into play. Take and post a picture of the engine bay. It's pretty obvious if it's still fuel injected or not.

hehehe I'll try... but from the way he is talking it seems like he pulled everything from the manifold off and it is now in the trunk.. Maybe he forgot where everything goes and wont man up. He does say it was running fine before he started tearing it down.
It doesnt have a turbo hood on it but it has a front mount intercooler. Maybe he dropped the efi so he could make it a turbo more easy?
