Question Big Question Guys

A guy in houston is selling his 04 STI for a damn good price. I've talked to him and he seems like a cool guy. He's got to go back to school or something like that. The cars never been wrecked and it wasn't damaged during Rita either. Tip top shape. It's got 24,000 miles, and it's black. Very nice! So the big question is, should I sell my 8 for this thing? I love my 8 and everything, but the STI is one of my dream cars. Any comments would be helpfull. :D Oh yeah, he's selling it for $23,500.

Ask him how fast it is and if he starts telling you all sorts of street racing stories walk away...walk away quickly because he's been beating on that ****. How would you drive an STi if you had one?

He sounded ike a younger guy, so I'm pretty sure he ragged on it. Hell I'd test out those 300 horsies if I had 'em! Hope that answers your question bud. :D

For one thing the STi's tranny is beefy, won't break easily but ofcourse constant abuse will kill anything.
Also, the new STis have forged internals vs. 1st gen STis (USDM).
What really kills me about the car is its AWD system. If they could have incorporated the 911 AWD system or the Skyline GT-R AWD system it would be incredible.

Try Carmax, though people I've talked to lately have been pretty lowballed by them where in the past they usually paid better than anyone would give on a trade. Goodluck with the decision, I won't bother tell you what I think :p

I dont think you'll regret making the trade. I traded in my 04 rx8 for an 04 STi and at first i felt like i was down grading looks wise. but after driving the car for about hmmmmm 10 minutes you'll get over it quickly, very quickly. I've actually come to love the looks of the STI now. I love it so much i traded in my 04 for an 06. The performance of the car is absolutley amazing. Compared to the RX8, the ride isnt' as smooth and refined, it's definitely alot stiffer. The handling is on par with the 8. Acceleration is a no brainer 300hp vs. 238(?). Plus the all wheel drive is very practical if your located where it snows. Their are also alot of little things that make this car very special/fun. you can have a fun time messing around with the DCCD (driver controled center differential), intercooler water sprayer, sports seats etc...I'm sure your aware of all the features though.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not downing the rx8 in any way, I actually loved that car, it just had to many quirks for me. But performance wise the STi is just on a level above the rx8. You'll be very happy with trade, trust me.

Yeah, "dream car" was maybe over-putting it. I remember playing "Gran Turismo 2" on the ps2 when it first came out. The rally stages were my favorite of all the various racing. I always picked the 22b to race around the the tracks. I also remember playing with the prototype RX8. :D I loved 'em both. Don't get me wrong, when I bought my 8 last December, I had my "dream car" right then and there. Then the STI came out here in the states. Oh my GOD. I nearly shat myself. LOL! I've been wanting one for awhile now. If I could only have 'em both! Well it's just not possible for me. My 8 payment is pretty high, and if I can get an STI for less, I think I should go for it. This isn't one of those STI vs. Rx8 threads either guys, come on, no bashing of two awesome cars. If anything I love my 8, but to have FI done to it and voiding my warranty, that aint happening. I knew Ike would love this btw. :D

Actually they don't. It was a typo on Subaru's press release. The '06 USDM STi has the same 2.5L (EJ25) it did in '04 and '05. There haven't been any changes. The rest of the world still gets their STi with the smaller 2.0L (EJ20), although it has a closed deck design with forged internals and a pretty healthy sized turbo.

I don't know about the 911's setup but the Atessa system in the Skyline is pretty amazing for sure. I'm not too sure what's so bad about Subaru's system though. It has DCCD and has been shown to do better than the Evo's setup in gravel. It also tears up the tarmac pretty well. In fact...the more I think about it...who sells a better AWD setup in the USDM?
