Just picked up the October Issue at the airport yesterday, sorry no link, Article is not yet online. The cover story is the 100 coolest cars. I expected to see the Rx8 or Rx7 somewhere on the list. No Dice. Most were older cars. lots of 50s and 60s Euro cars. Only a few cars being made today were on the list. Still I expected to see the RX7 somewhere - Notable Japaneese cars were the 300ZX, Skyline, 240z, and Toyota 2000Gt. The Miata got #73

 

hmmm. I wouldn't call the miata cool. It is certainly a sweet performance car, but I wouldn't roll around in one if I was trying to play it cool.

I am sure the 300SL was close to top honours. Care to share the coolest car of all time.

 

SL (Gulwing) was 7th.

1) 63-67 Corvette Sting Ray

 

Those old split window sting ray's were bad to the bone! Especially with those calf burning pipes down the side! I dont get #2 though. So many other rare autos with more character...like #3.

 

I agree, the 911 just seems out of place.

 

..."commoness" dilute its status in the automotive world. Yes, it far more common than many cars on that list, but its reputation is legendary. No other car can even come close to its record in racing, its longevity is un-matched (as far performance/sports cars go) and the fact that it is, essentially, the same design as it was introduced almost 50 years ago makes it an icon. As long as Porsche continues to improve on it and keep it in the top-tier of performance automobiles, it's legend will increase more and more.

I'm surprised the FD didn't make it and the 300ZX did. What about the last Supra, was that on there somewhere?

 

I think the fact that they have been selling the same design for 50 years should keep them off the list. LOL!

 

Anything that hangs a flat 6 out back behind the rear wheels and kicks *** the world over is cooler than anything mentioned in this thread so far except maybe the Shelby Cobra. A stripped down roadster with that 427 making the music that it makes, hittin' like a sledge hammer between the eyes...damn. Just made a mess.
