Audi S4's
i must say i was pretty impressed. torque - speed - handling
i was mindin my own biz drivin on the hwy when the sucker drove up to my bumper, drove around me and speed up. im not sure if it had the twin turbo set up... but it sure felt like it did. i think i was going about 120km...
maybe i can get a used one.
what do you guys think of the s4/rs4's ?

The RS4 is freaking HAWT! Saw one at the last Tokyo Motor show and gotta say I loved it. The 3 door A3 is sharp too, but it's really just a luxury GTI, so I wouldn't buy it. But the rumored S3 and RS3... now that I'd buy.

Bummed, but bring on OU!
S4 is very different than RS4.
I like the previous gen twin turbo S4's over the new V8 version. They'll still run you low to mid 20k's for one with decent mileage, which is a bit steep for a 5-6 year old car.

i was gonna buy an 00 s4... but they arent reliable.... there are hundreds of wiring problems.... i have a 99 a4 (for 1 more week).... and yes.. s4 is an awsome car...the best thing about it is that with just an ecu upgrade ($400).... u can tweak the hp of the s4 from 250 to 300... how impressive is that.

B5 S4's (last body style, 2.7l TT) are great cars that can be made very fast. They can handle a fair amount of boost too. They are a little on the tubby side but upgrade from the K03 turbos (the S4 might have the sport K03's) to the KO4's and upgrade the intercoolers to the RS4 side mounts and with a ECU reprogram, you will have a pretty fast grocery go getter. Like all Audi's I have been around they too suffer from electrical problems, while usually pretty minor stuff it does get annoying.
I really do not like the B6 S4's (V8 NA) but I have only seen stock ones in person. I am sure that people will be making them fast pretty soon.

My problem with the S4 is it looks too similar to the A4. The M3 has some styling cues to distinguish it from the 3 series, but I don't really know of any obvious ones on the S4 aside from the badge.
Usually for me I only notice when an "A4" suddenly just takes off at an unbelievable speed. It's happened to me a few times. "Holy crap, that A4 is frickin fast! Oh wait, it's an S4."

I am not a fan of the B5 S4's. I've driven one extensively. I found the seating postiion terrible, the pedal placement poor, the steering was numb and loose, the car pushed like a whale in corners. I really walked away from driving it thinking that it would be a great car for a 30 something year old executive who knows absolutely nothing about cars, or driving, and wants to look sporty.
I couldn't see myself ever considering one over an M3.

I think I'm with you. The S4 I drove (2002, iirc) just didn't feel 'sporty' inside. As I looked around my driving environment I didn't get the feeling I was in an especially-capable car.
B6 S4s though...I'm thinking that could be my rx8's replacement. Very quick, agile, great-if-subtle looks.

i was thinking about getting a b5 s4 before, but too many people kept bagging on me that it breaks down too much. i really liked the car but didn't like the interior as much also. :P

Umm, really. I'd like to know which cars you think are "drivers car's"
You've made it clear the RS4 the M3 and RX-8 and not your type of car and I consider all of them really good "driver cars"

Evo, STI, Elise, Boxster, 911, Miata, M3, RX-8, and many others are all more of a drivers car than the RS4 IMO.
