I'm very happy that MB and Mclaren split up, now instead of the SRL we are getting 2 super cars to drool over. Personally even more so than this car, I am looking forward to Mclaren's next super car the true successor to the amazing McLaren F1 that was the paradigm of all super cars back in the 90s.

One of the smartest moves Mercedes ever made was buying up AMG, at the time an outside Benz tuner, and incorporating it as the tuning division of the brand. This gives Mercedes a lot of marketing clout and provides a needed spice-up to the brand as compared to its rivals over at Audi and BMW who both enjoy a more sporty image to their mainline models.
The AMG Mercedes SL 65 Black Series comes with AMG's own 6.0-liter V12 bi-turbo engine, developing 493 kW / 670 hp at 5,400 rpm. The torque is electronically limited to 1,000 Nm from 2,200 to 4,200 rpm lest the car's burning wheels burrow themselves right into the ground and leave you stuck in the melting asphalt.
The SL 65 Black Series comes with a five-speed automatic gearbox with four drive programs: C, S, M1 and M2. AMG claims the M2 setting has a response time 20% quicker than M1. I guess the letters stand for Comfort, Sport, Mucho-fast 1, and 2-wice as Mucho-fast, respectively.
There are also three suspension settings with the ESP ON, ESP SPORT, ESP OFF/Let's tempt fate.
This SL 65 AMG also sports an impressive 2.79 kg/hp weight to power ratio. Hey, that's like asking a horse to carry your laptop, isn't it? It's light as air. Or maybe we shouldn't trust my sense of physics which comes mostly from watching cartoons.
The press release comes with a litany of details. Enjoy.
