Wow, that was fast Mazda CX-9

http://www.autoblog.com/2006/04/04/w...ork-auto-show/

Mazda will showcase the CX-9 "crossover sport-utility vehicle" at the New York International Auto Show next week. A big brother to the CX-7 crossover that debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, the CX-9 is designed specifically for the North American market.

The CX-9 is said to combine seven-passenger seating with "a sporty driving spirit" and "energetic performance." Motivation comes from a new MZI 3.5-liter V6 coupled to a six-speed automatic in either FWD or AWD configurations. Expect the CX-9 to appear on the showroom floor in early 2007. Full press release after the jump.

2007 Mazda CX-9 Crossover SUV to Make Global Debut at 2006 New York International Auto Show

IRVINE, Calif. -- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) will unveil its all-new 2007 Mazda CX-9 seven-passenger crossover sport-utility vehicle (SUV) at next week's New York International Auto Show. Arriving in Mazda dealerships in early 2007, the CX-9 is designed and engineered specifically for North America. The Mazda CX-9's design sets new standards for style, while incorporating an interior of sophisticated elegance with class-leading space and unmatched versatility. Best of all, CX-9 -- like all Mazdas -- has the Soul of a Sportscar.

Like the Mazda CX-7 presented earlier this year, the CX-9 is a clean break from the traditional boxy SUVs crowding the US market, deftly blending sporty driving spirit with seven-passenger SUV practicality.

"The North American market continues to play a leading role in Mazda Motor Corporation's global future and financial health," emphasizes Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. "The all-new CX-7 and CX-9 were engineered specifically for North America to help us fulfill ambitious goals. The CX-9 has traits only a Mazda SUV could have: strong performance, agile handling, precise steering and superior quality and craftsmanship."

Mazda CX-9 targets young couples and modern families with a focus on family interests, yet haven't lost their desire for high-intensity leisure activities, learning experiences and social interaction. It is also ideal for couples with grown children who pursue an active lifestyle.

Every CX-9 is powered by a new 3.5-liter V6 engine driven through a standard six-speed automatic transmission. Final drive is through either front- or all-wheel drive. Brakes are large ventilated discs on all four wheels.

More detail on specific model content will be available closer to launch, but standard features on all trims include air conditioning, power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, cruise control, and six airbags. To help avoid accidents, all CX-9s are fitted as standard with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Roll Stability Control (RSC) and Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS). An optionally available power-operated lift gate provides one-touch opening and closing access to the cargo hold.

Why is Mazda so mysterious? This is exactly the reason I find it amusing that people think without any doubt the RX8 is going to be around in 2007. They always say it's because Mazda hasn't said anything about the RX8's disappearance......well, they don't say anything about any vehicle apparently!!! I would not say with any certainty what Mazda's plans are for ANY vehicle.

Sounds like Ford's Duratec 35 that is coming out in 2007 in the Edge, MKX, MKZ, etc.

Mazda 6 comes with a 3.0L V6, but yeah, now that I think about it, I really doubt its a all Mazda engine.

MZI 3.5L V6 = the soon-to-be-out 3.5L Duratec V6, with Mazda tuned variable valve timing.

the 3.5L v6 will be added to the 2007 Mazda6 as well.

Probably basic block with Cosworth casting process and the rest is all Mazda engineering. Just like all their current engines.

Supposedly, all the engines used by Mazda under 3L are designed by Mazda (Often with the help of Cosworth). The bigger ones are by far mostly Ford.

The turbocharged I-4 isnt suitable to move 7 ppl + luggage, and a heavier car IMO, hence the 3.5L V6. Whats the HP for the new V6? 260ish hp? (guesstimate from other 3.5L V6s)

that's a fair estimate, as that's what the folks on mazda6 forums are guessing for the upcoming 3.5L upgrade for their car as well.

Hmm Btw, thats a really really nice blue on the CX-9, lets hope they have the same colour for the CX-7 too, It'd look even better with a slightly smaller car. If Mazda can keep the interior material quality up, it'd be a hit, their cars have pretty good reliablity now(lets exclude the 8 for the sake of arguments..IMO 8 is good too).

I believe I've been told the only all mazda engine is in the (you guessed it!) RX-8.
Thank you RENESIS!

Off subject but maybe youll get a kick out of this:
My friends uncle bet me he could find a Ford part in my engine (Mazda6 at the time). He searched for a while, all the plastic he could see and everything. Needless to say, I won the bet. It was funny.

More info on the engine.. I love wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Cyclone_engine

Main article: Ford Cyclone engine
The Duratec 35 (code-name Cyclone) is a new 3.5 L V6 that will appear in the Fall of 2006. It is an all-aluminum engine based on the Duratec 30, and adds variable cam timing on the intake side, a feature already found on the Jaguar AJ30 and Mazda AJ versions of the 3.0.

The new heads relocate all accessory drives to the front of the engine with a flush chain drive, saving space. The new combustion chambers are reshaped as well. A dual-stage variable length intake manifold, centrally-located sparkplugs, and a 10.3:1 compression ratio are other features. The Duratec 35 is ULEV-II compliant and is said to be capable of meeting the PZEV requirement as well. The dual-stage intake manifold was part of the Duratec 30.

Engine output could reach 300 hp (224 kW), but will be 250 hp (186 kW) and about 240 ft·lbf (325 N·m) at launch, still a substantial upgrade in power from the Duratec 30.

The engine is the same exterior size as the Duratec 30, and should be usable in all vehicles currently using that engine and its derivatives. The company expects the engine to be used in one fifth of all Ford products by the end of the decade.

The Duratec 35 will replace the Duratec 30 in some applications (notably the Ford Five Hundred) by the end of that year, but the Duratec 30 will continue in production.

Thanks for the information. Ranger

RazzyRX-8, the MZR2.3L and MZR2.0L in Mazda 3 are made by Mazda. Of course all the rotaries, and I believe some smaller displacement engines (less than 2.0L in foreign markets are all mazda too)

What I am curious about is whether they'd have an AWD system for the 2007 Mazda6. A 3.5L V6 with AWD is almost like a Mazdaspeed 6

Back on the CX-9, do you guys think 250hp is enough for this car? Not sure about the weight, but if its like the Subaru B9 (The alien-like car), it'd be slowwwwwwwwwwwww, 4000+pounds/250hp

my brother owns a tribeca, it's a pig of a car. The best Interior in its' class though. So the cx9 is a bigger cx7 with a v6 that makes 6 more ponies?... yeah, that's worth the extra 15 grand.

Unacceptable Mazda, it looks like a CX-7, which isn't too impressing itself.
