I remember reading an interview with little Al in one of the car mags where he said he doesn't hit the bottle - paraphrasing here - but he said being a recovering alcy he can't, and doesn't, go near the stuff. And he's happier for it. Supposedly.
More on the stripper story, please. I thought he only roughed up his ex-wife.

Recovering alcoholics have to stay away from the bottle. I suspect that at the time of the interview you read he probably was. But he's fallen off the wagon every now and then.
For a while he was dating a stripper in Indianapolis. The club where she worked was south of town, just off I-465, the ring road. In the wee hours one morning they were driving back to the Speedway, where they were staying in his motor home. They had some kind of argument, and he stopped and dropped her off on the shoulder. The police found her wandering around the highway, heard her story, then caught up with him at his motor home.
It's a real shame that he's not able to stay straight and sober. He was a very talented driver, and was usually a class act on the track.
