Accord Hybrid more power than 8?

I know it's not an 8 but I found this interesting.
The new Accord Hybrid has more horsepower plus it has more MPG's. Although the "fine line" states MPG's based on epa ratings so I wonder how much of the horsepower and MPG's are really accurate when people start driving it.

Not sure about your friend's numbers are accurate on the v6 accord: 35 city and 42 highway? Epa states 21cty/30hwy. My uncle has one and gets 22mpg mixed. I drove it all summer long. This hybrid is a big improvement, but it's still a boring old accord.. borringg!

i found this ad interesting because it's a hybrid giving it more mpgs than the 8 but at the same time more horsepower too.

doesn't usually work where if it has great gas mileage, it's got crappy horsepower or if it has great horsepower, has crappy gas mileage (like the 8).

Which makes me wonder if the Accord really carries 255 hps or if it's been overstated like the 8 was in the beginning, maybe even now...

amen to that.... :D i guess it wouldn't look too bad with a nice body kit though...

would it be possible to make a hybrid rotary? would that be the same as the hydrogen rx8 that's been approved for street use in japan?

hehe...well it could get that mpg seeming how it is a hybrid...but if you step on the gas to feel that 255hp i bet the mpg goes to hell

The hybrid has the V6 (240hp) plus an electric engine (15hp). They can work together to produce 255 hp for max acceleration or independantly for gas mileage.

Electric engines are used primarily for acceleration in hybrid cars, where they are most efficent. The gas engine is used to recharge the batteries and for cruising at lower rpm's (where they are least gas consuming). This is how most hybrids work. I'm suprised ot hear that the electric motor is so low horse-power, I figured that it would be more like 80-90hp range.

This is the latest generation/technology in hybrid engines. Displacement on demad. Essentially a stock engine (240 hp), that uses electric when it can to save gas. Also it supposedly turns off a bank of cylinders (goes to 3 cylinders) when it is cruising. Great technology, but it oesn't lessen (as a matter of fact increases) the weight of the car. Really is the best of both worlds. More hp when needed (unlike some of the previous generation hybrids that were feeble), and better gas mileage.

I'm guessing that your friend's v-6 accord isn't really the v-6.

but that is just a guess.

the 4 cylinder that gets 34 mpg sounds a bit more reasonable to squeeze 40 miles per gallon out of.

I could be wrong.

oh, and the new accord is pretty sweet.. the fastest accord in honda's lineup.

Well my wife has 2 cars in mind next year for her car... accord hybrid and a lotus elise.

She might as well just add an H2 hummer in there so she has all her bases covered.

Been driving a 2002 Accord with the VTEC 2.3 4 Cylinder, only use it for commuting to and from work which is 20 miles of freeway and 5 miles of highway with 4 stop lights, I am usually getting right under 400 miles to a tank filling up a little over 15 gallons each time. Thats only 26MPG. A long way from 40MPG and thats almost all freeway driving. I dont ever hit stop and go traffic because i go to work too early and leave to late.

Now if they can just work on the weight it probably would be. Well, the body too.
If the 8 had that feature: great body, light weight, good hp, great mpgs, excellent handling, man, what more could you ask for! But then again I guess that'd be like wishing for a supermodel to be my wife, have Lindsay Lohan as my mistress, and Carmen Electra as my "f*ck buddy*! :D

its unfortunate the the hybrid only comes with an automatic, is slower than the 8, and doesn't handle anywhere near as well as the 8. Oh, and its ugly.

Well, my point is that although I love my 8, i hate thinking that the accord not only has more mpgs since it's a hybrid, but has more hps too.
I mean, please correct me if I'm wrong but the 8 is Mazda's flagship sports car (or is it the Miata?), the accord is just a FAMILY sedan and yet, the big ol' lumbering accord has more power.

I just hate to think the accord hybrid (a family sedan) having quicker numbers than the 8 (a sports car).

Although I didn't think about the weight the accord has since it's carrying batteries too so that may make a diff...hmmm :o

The accord's 6.xx 0-60 are pretty comparable to the 8's 6.xx acceleration. Yes, I know somebody or another managed to squeeze a 5.9 out of an 8, but the vast majority got over 6.

The accord is just another fast sedan. Not a canyon carving sports car. And I'm sure a test drive would confirm which is more fun.

I have no doubt our 8's top the Accord in Fun factor. :D

What's buggin' me is that thought of someone in a family sedan keeping up with a sports car.

I'm sure someone out there will buy one, then one day on the freeway, come up on an 8, think they're bad and have enough guts to take one on and actually keep up, that's what sucks. although i'm sure a mt 8 ought to smoke one, right?

so even with the extra weight from the battery, the acceleration times are still close?
