350z 35th Edition

300hp and 260lb-ft....that is one fast car.

Anyone here like the Z? All I have heard is bad reviews about it on these forums. I considered getting it, but everyone and their mother seems to have one. What do you guys think?

For the price, I'd go for the 6MT G35 Coupe. Same engine putting out the same power, plus a back seat.

they both use the same engine, same chassis.... the G35 has back seats... how can it be faster than the 350Z? and plus isn't the G35 a bit heavier than the 350Z??

Also, according to the nissan.usa.com and infiniti websites, the Z has 300hp at 6,400 rpm and the g35 has 298hp at 6,200 rpm. 200 rpm difference. Torque is the same for both at 260lb-ft.

Anyone have any 0-60 times for these cars to compare against our 5.9? Just wondering how much faster they are and if the ride is better or worse etc..

They've got far more torque, so they're quicker to 60 and in the 1/4-mile by about .25-.50 seconds. The 350Z rides far worse than the RX-8 being rather stiff; the G35 is comparable even a little softer than the RX-8, depending on the model you get. Both are significantly heavier and not as well-balanced leading to good handling, but sub-par when compared to the RX-8.

I don't believe the Z got all bad reviews on this site--in fact I'll go out on a limb and say at least half of us cross shopped the Z before we got the RX8. The 35th anniversary gives up some torque for more high end HP. Those added ponies are higher on the rev band--so 0-60 the 35th anniv. is not really faster than the regular Z--the added power and revised rev-band make it shine on the autocross track.
Also--kind of off topic--but does anybody have a pic of the 35th Anniversary Z with the two tone black/tan leather?

if you go to nissan's website and compare the 2005 Z to the 35AE, they have the same HP specs and everything.
I wonder if that's actually the case.

Nissan just bumped up the compression ratio and, therefore, the redline to gain those extra ponies. Consequently low end torque suffered slightly.

I'd take a car that's a smidge slower to get a really nice interior and a back seat. I really doubt you're going to notice that extra weight unless you're using it as a weekend racer. If that's the case, go with the Z. If it's going to be a daily driver, take the G35.

I test drove the 04 G35 coupe (auto), and ended up getting an 04 RX8 (6-speed). Now, i know auto doesnt do the car justice, but i dont think 300hp will change my mind about the infiniti.

The 35th edition was in C/D last month, it was two tenths slower than the "regualr" Z at 5.9 to 60mph. Although they said better at the track cause 2nd gear can be held longer. Anyone else notice the wheels....they look just like the 8's.

Yeah--the 350Z design camp is starting to take minute cues from the 8 it seems. Its all good--cause the Z looks good as well

The rx8 does not have unique wheels btw. The rx8 has five spoke wheels, not every car that has five spoke wheels is copying the rx8. And the Z isn't taking styling cues from the 8, i think if anything the Z takes cues from porsche. I mean i love my 8 and all, but cmon people. Z's rock btw, and yes i did cross shop the Z and it came down to the S-Plan for me.

The rims do look like the RX8s--and look at the restyled headlight bezels for the 06 350Z--it has RX8 style cues in them; its probably not intentional of course.

In my opinion the Z is more of a porsche/celica than porsche/rx-8...

I don't have anything against the Z except that it has a rear like a porsche. I'll take the real thing anytime. Z was never on my list because of that fact. I did look into the G35 though. I gave up that because there were too many around my neigborhood.

so yea. like you said "everyone and their mother seems to have one." I like that its fast if its any concern.

I cross shopped the 350z and g35 before i bought the rx. 350 was awesome but with no backseat was no good, g35 was also awesome, but quite a bit more expensive so i just went with the rx8

Exactly my experience. 350 was fun but where do i put the car seat? G35 was nice but about 5k more (CDN) than an 8 and was hard to get the dog into the back. 8 meets all my needs, but i still think the 350/g35 are great cars.

My wife and I own a 05 350z and a 03 carrera 4s coupe, we love the Z ride isnt harsh, 2 seats not a factor to us(just dogs),besides the porsche has backseats. comparing the P to the Z the P is longer and is a little taller, z looks a little more portly from certain angles, but I really like the look of the z, performance, since its a heavier awd ,0-60 times about same with the Z, but top end its faster, interior layout pretty similar with the p but cheaper materials etc.. handling, stock for stock, the p esp with awd handles much better than the z esp in the rain, but dont get me wrong the z handles great, just remember to get rid of the sucktenzas anyway we love em both.

IMO the 35th tho 300hp, lost 14lbs of torque and with it being loaded, heavier. not worth the extra $$$. sorta like a touring with brembos

We dont have an 8, like most have stated, we crossed looked the z and 8, but chose the z instead, one big factor was the mazda dealers here are a complete joke, picture this 38k rx8 before taxes YEA RIGHT.. and the fleetmanager thought he was so clever, one guy we heard got raped, rx8 everything but aero kit otd 40k... it really left a bad taste. Z dealers here are also crappy, we ordered one from a great cali dealer that was recommended by friends here and LA who belong to Z clubs.

I hang around cause of cool people here and the rx7 board, also I did own a 1st and 3rd gen RX7 so im partial to the rotory and waiting/wondering when or what the next rx? will be.

As a fellow car enthusiasts, I dont hate one make over another (cept mabey a pinto) no car **** here, luv all things motorintg
