It scared the hell out of me.
you could break the rear end loose at 100 mph in 4th gear pretty easily.
Although power can be a lot of fun, it sometimes can be a double edged sword.

I see a Cars and Coffee C8 fail video soon.
Would be cool to see one hit a Mustang.

A base Corvette has enough power to be a handful for people who don't know how to handle it.

I was thinking the guy yesterday who hit the tire got a little impatient doing the "skidpad" (wasn't exactly one, but it essentially was one), and started to give it gas.

I am very excited to see it, its strikes quite a good balance for the "road warriors" that never go to a track. Ample storage (My favorite is the fact you can fit the removable top in the rear unlike A LOT of cars) and the idea of a great stereo system. How old do I sound now? XD

Weight is going to continue to go up. Like mentioned before some for cooling I am sure, but also safety gets more and more strict each year. That = weight. So comparing a tiny outdated 2000lb miata to this imo is irreverent.

I would like to add did anyone see it has a dry sump? I think that is freaking awesome, multiple reasons that we all know but thats usually a tasking and somewhat expensive addition to any vehicle. Just goes to show they cared about the balance of the car and oil starvation.

If you are a road warrior, then a base Stingray is good enough.

New Miatas are 2300 lb so still not that heavy.

C7 has a dry sump system for Stingray w/Z51, Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1. They will probably keep this setup.

You don't see a Miata, S2000 or RX-8 "fail" because we have zero torque, essentially.

But even then, I have heard that someone crashed their S2000 at the local Autocross event, so anything can happen.

When I corner balanced my RX-8, it weighed in at exactly 3300Lbs with half a tank of gas and 165Lbs ballast in the driver seat. I was rather shocked to say the least. I drove it to a CAT scale to double check. Yep. I have photos of that somewhere... Anyway, that makes the Vette sound nice and light.

Jinx, I wish I had time to find the data and type it up, but power only beats handling on tracks where the straights are long enough to allow the power car to overcome its corner exit deficit, chase down, and make a pass on the slower car, all while the slower car is also accelerating. On the 1.3 mile track at MSR Cresson, my Miata runs consistent 1:11 lap times. My RX-8 (not quite as well-handling) also runs consistent 1:11 lap times. My E46, which has more torque and a better power-to-weight ratio than both cars, but does not handle as well, runs consistent 1:12 lap times. Yep. Slower than a Miata. The straights are simply too short for the power to matter. On the 1.7 mile track, the Miata runs 1:28s, the RX-8 runs 1:26s, and the E46 runs 1:26s. On that configuration, the E46's better P/W ratio overcomes its handling deficiencies just enough to make it equal to the 8. But, the E46 would never be able to make a pass, unless the RX-8 driver were to make a significant mistake, because the 8 out-brakes and out-corners the E46.

Take the 3 cars to CoTA, and things change dramatically. The 8 and the E46 would destroy the Miata on those long straights. And those two cars would be decimated by every newer Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, whatever.

P/W Ratios:

Miata - 20.7
RX-8 - 16.5 (assumes 200WHP ;P )
E46 - 14.9

Fun thread. I'm still seriously considering picking one up.
