2014 Miata

Wow...turbo from factory?:fingersx: I'm really liking what Mazda has been doing! Hopefully we'll see some news about a new rotary as well? |
I'll take a larger NA four banger over a really small displacement turbocharged engine any day. But that is probably where some weight savings is. It looks like a Z4, but we shall see if it ever gets produced.
yeah i saw the 300lb savings and was like :0 does look like a beamer...id drive it though.
Looks great, but I don't dig the tiny 4 cylinder engine. At least it should be a 2.0 turbo.
holyshit, hope they make a mazdaspeed version! Wish the base model would be non turbo and keep the turbo for the mazdaspeed, still crazy how it's gonna be 300lbs less... damn.
if only that 1.3 were some sort of 13b! like a S2 engine. but sounds crazy a 1.3 liter piston engine. meh.
I'll be all over it if it gets produced.
Wouldn't that be something if car and driver were wrong and Mazda really meant a 1.3L Turbo'd rotary engine? :naughty:

It's hard to believe they'd put an engine that small into a sports car though unless if it's a rotary. The Mazda 2 even has a 1.5L.
but dont you think thats a little too small for a turbo application?
turbo IS the reason it would be so small. Consider it capacity on demand. Small engine for cruising, some added boost for get up and go.
Alot of manufactures are following this trend; lower the displacement and add boost. The new Miata is a special extreme example because of it being very light weight. You need to took at total power output rather than just pure displacement. |
The 1.3 Turbo four banger reminds me of the old school Honda city that had a 1.3L turbo. It was weak too.
yeah i guess 167hp for 2200lbs isnt that bad at all...honda city arent those the japanese version of geo metro?
using 2300 hp puts it at @13.5 hp/lbs and would put it in the 6 second 0-60 time, shave a couple or 3 hundredths off at 2200lbs...
Awesome. I'll bet the 1.3l turbo will have much better midrange torque than the existing N/A 2.0. If they can really pull 300 lbs out it will be a fantastic drive. I'll probably buy one. A great answer to the Toybaru.
damn thats sorta quick then...haha toybaru
And Zoom with a 300HP turbo 13b.....
Another thing I like about the turbo is the hope of easy tuning, like the MS Miata had. If it could be bumped to an honest 200 hp it would be quite quick.
id prob buy one if it could be easily tuned. it looks damn good, i just hope they make a hardtop version as well
167 hp with 2200 body is fast.
and I won't be surprised if it can go up to 200hp easily and if you strip the body with lighter parts, it should have no problem go down to 2000 lbs, 200 hp. damn. |

Maybe, just maybe, I can stop the inaccurate rumors regarding the next generation MX-5 on THIS FORUM. The likelihood that Mazda will use a turbocharged engine of any displacement on it is about nil. They will use a Skyativ G engine. The only turbocharged engines Mazda is speaking of presently are diesel and that will not be used in the MX-5.
