2014 Mazda6 finally breaks cover..
2014 Mazda6 finally breaks cover in Moscow
Finally revealed at Moscow car show... and I think it looks fantastic ! Inside and out. Might need one to compliment the red RX8 :yumyum: http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....zda6628opt.jpg |

Fantastic looking car!
Found some of the other pics interesting: This one appears to 'confirm' (?) FWD only. At least, this is clearly FWD, but I don't think there is enough room in that slight exhaust tunnel to fit a driveshaft without more major modification that would complicate stuff with crash tests, etc... Attachment 230557 These two engine shots are really really close, but a few changes. Different engine sizes? or gas/diesel? :dunno: (oil pan flange and flywheel are the two differences I see) Attachment 230558Attachment 230559 |
It's disappointing to me. I think it will be like the previous 6, it will look good in pics but look awkward in person. But the interior looks nice and I can see them selling well in it's segment.
|
So the SKYACTIV-G 2.5 officially exists? Interesting...
|
2.0 and 2.5 l gas engines from your pics pearl

look how the line that starts just after the front wheel continues through the rear wheel bulge and around to the bumper

Maybe I'm odd, or blind, or something...
But my friends just bashed it for looking like the 2001 Tiburon and 2012 Maxima, and inferior to both. :scared: :puke: Sure, go ahead and dislike it, but THAT comparison? |
oh i just noticed too- the side mirrors are attached on the door and not to the corner of the window space as they have been for all models in recent years
oh- cx-5 side mirrors are on the sheet metal too |
not crazy about the grill but glad its nit smiling
|
your friends are high.
|
saw comments on autoblog trashing the "aftermarket" looking nav/display etc. so for years everyone has complained about the integrated AV stack that makes it hard to upgrade. Mazda puts in what looks like a standard double din which would be easy(easier anyway) to swap out and people complain about that.
|
Zoom,
The only happy people are the ones not bothering to comment :) |
|
I think the front end looks great and the back rear design is pretty nice but the middle looks like the old body design and is lacking a little bit of style to carry over besides the body line panel. Interior is very nice.

OK dont get me wrong, Mazda did an amazing job carrying over the design and staying true to the design intent but something is bothing me.
I think it is the fact the concept had a flatter chopped look to it more like the Karma Fisker. |
meh, it's got the stupid disconnected fender of the old one via the rx-8 that look completely out of place and more like a Ram truck than a sports car. I wish mazda would get away from that look since they've only pulled it off with the rx8 and have failed with all other attempts.

'THE KINKS" for the launch music!!!...That fine British Rock band of the late 60's.."All day and All of the Night"...

Note" to the MNAO "Marketing Guys"...'Team Mazda'.
Do this as your promotional launch, not some cheap ass, cheap gimmick (like Lorax and 6 Million Dollar CX-5 BS)..you can add class without trashing the brand, like you usually do. THE ART OF EXHILARATION..now, there is a start. |
More quoted details..
Mazda6 program manager Hiroshi Kajiyama said the car “handles so well it seems to respond directly to the driver’s intentions rather than physical manipulations of the steering”. “I can’t wait to see the look on the faces of the people getting out of the car after their first time behind the wheel of the new Mazda6,” he said. Among technologies new to Mazda are automatic high-beam headlight control, directional headlights that move with the steering, and autonomous braking. The latter uses a “near-infrared beam sensor” to detect an imminent collision and automatically brake the car in an emergency to avoid or mitigate an impact. A rear-vehicle monitoring system warns the driver of fast-approaching vehicles from behind, while the Mazda6 also gains lane-departure warning. Fuel consumption has been slashed by a huge 27 per cent according to the figures released in Moscow, down from the current 8.8 litres per 100km for the current model with the old 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine to just 6.4L/100km for the new-generation engine of the same size. |
Love the new Kodo design philosophy. Cannot wait to see the Kodo MX-5, Mazda 3, and RX-?.
Not too fond of the red/orange color though, give me winning blue back please... |

while the Mazda6 also gains lane-departure warning. We don't get that little Control Knob on the center console with the CX-5 either, though other markets do I think. |
I got really bored so I made a winning blue one just the way I want!

Someone really paid attention to the aerodynamics under the car. It's beautiful under there. Makes you feel like you're looking up a skirt.

Mazda is getting serious about this weight thing. |
Just remember this car is BIG!,well over 4 metres long, almost 5...or almost as long as a CX-9.
Or to give my US mates an idea...it is not much smaller than the Aussie made Pontiac G8, or Holden Commodore...it is less than 3 inches in either direction. 4903 mm G8 Long...4865 mm for new 6 1899 mm G8 Wide...1840 mm for new 6 1471 mm G8 High...1450 mm for new 6 |

1 inch = 25.4mm, so that is 55mm (~2.1 inches) shorter length, 20mm (~0.8 inches) lower roofline
|
Wheelbase has increased from 2789 mm to 2830 mm for 2014 as well.
Paul. |
longer wheel base and shorter outside = smaller car with larger inside:)

Mazda 6 COUPE being considered!!
BTW: Mazda are 'considering' and AWD Turbo Version of MPS (Mazdaspeed).
Speaking at the Moscow Motor Show, chief designer Akira Tamatani confirmed a coupe is under consideration. He told Autocar, "There is no decision, but I would love to make one." Tamatani added, "The first job is to make the saloon and estate, but from this position a coupe is not so far away." Program manager Hiroshi Kajiyama also revealed the company is evaluating an all-wheel drive system. He told the magazine, "There are no set plans, but we are studying the possibility of introducing all-wheel drive - it would be a good weapon with which to establish the brand." In another interview, Kajiyama said a high-performance Mazda6 is also being considered. He declined to go into specifics, but indicated the model could be lighter than the standard car. |
But the diesel will have turbo's ? :D:
|
nice car...note the steering wheel with palette (correct in english?) for gear-changing
this car seems very driver-oriented for a midsize sedan. BTW i'm waiting for the wagon http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/1...a6sedan382.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us |
interior looks nice, upscale even. Finally, they get it right. Still I think they tamed it down too much on the outside.

like I said, they just need to fired all of them and hired me instead. I am sure I know who and how to market Mazda. Not that you would be wrong, just that I don't think you wouldn't really be the right choice for marketing a company like Mazda. I think the right direction would be to create a series of commercials, each one targeting a specific customer segment that buys these large family cars, and state the reason why this car beats all of its competitors in that one point. You have one commercial that says we beat the Camry, Malibu, Accord, and Altima for fuel economy in one commercial. You can drive from Denver to Las Vegas in one tank. Then the next commercial says that the car is more comfortable for your commute than the Camry, Accord, Altima, Sonata, and Malibu, and show it soaking up both pothole ridden streets, and smooth open highway roads with a major city in the coming distance. The next commercial would be about handling. It beats the Accord, Altima, Sonata, Camry, Malibu not only while going grocery shopping, but while tearing up the mountains, and if life leads you onto a roadcourse race track. Cue footage of it tearing up Laguna Seca, Miller Raceway, HPR, NHIS, and Road Atlanta, with a full load of groceries in the trunk. And then, if you really want to go over the top, say that anyone who buys the 6 between release date and December 31st gets free warranty and maintenance plan upgrades, to then have the best in class warranty, beating Hyundai's warranty, for up to 120k powertrain, and 60k bumper to bumper. Free oil changes for 50k. That would be the way to properly market the new 6, but that's just my opinion. Better than calling prospective customers idiots if they buy a Camry, anyway. BC. |

Not that you would be wrong, just that I don't think you wouldn't really be the right choice for marketing a company like Mazda. NYCGPS would probably go off on a rant about oil viscosity, synthetics, and what Mazda did wrong with the Renesis :) Only those of us here would understand his brilliance  |
Wow the car actually likes quite nice (interior and exterior) and I've never been a fan of mazda's interiors... maybe this will be a pleasant surprise. Also the curb weight coming in at a bit over 3000 lbs for a car that's the size of a 5 series makes the 8 seem like a boat in comparison!
