The RS is here except that we call it R3 (God knows why).

I don't know about that gauge cluster on the 3 hatch... looks like something off an old jetta...
No analog pressure or temp gauge that I saw... plus a digital fuel gauge. I'm uncertain.

And does anyone know why all cars seem to be going to a Massive stereo/nav control **** like a BMW idrive or something? Its like the size of the top of a beer can.

I do like the nav screen tucked up there though. I would have to see it in person to decide for sure though.

When is mazda going to red rid of that center digital information display? I don't like it in my 8, and think it continues to look out of place in the new cars. Its like, is the technology to do a dot matrix that hard? Hell, GM managed it.

Also.. Hood scoop = big screaming "speed 3" badge. The under hood intercooler vents was more subtle. clearly.

The Mazdaspeed 3 in japan is already AWD, i don't see why it's so tough to sell it here with the AWD.

The Japanese Axela (3) comes with an AWD version but it's an automatic non turbo. The Speed model was initially concieved, designed and engineered in the US and taken to Japan for approval after which further engineering was conducted with a budget provided by what we call Corp (Mazda Japan).

No AWD Speed.

Probably because with the way the intercooler was set up on the old Speed6 and Speed3 was known for heatsoak in hotter climates. Getting rid of the Speed3 badge, just de-badge it. Your other points I can pretty much agree with.

because BMW is suppose to the benchmark for other cars to strive to. personally i hate bmw's idrive system. sure, the idea is cool on paper, and it does clean the dash up somewhat, but overall it just doesnt cut it for me. its just much easier to reach over and press the ONE button that will do the exact function i want it to do instead of scrolling through menus and options.

Very good point - Did they make an aftermarket hood for the speed 3 with scoop to eliminate this problem?

Top gear does a good job of poking fun at all of these new drive systems. I'm with you though, the settings of the car don't need a menu set-up like an ipod.

2010 Mazdaspeed3 rumored to appear at Geneva Auto Show in March

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/14/m...va-motor-show/

We've already seen the 2010 Mazda3 in sedan and five-door form, but as much as we love the standard model in all of its guises, there's one variant we're anxiously awaiting. The 2010 Mazdaspeed3 (or MPS to our friends abroad) is on the way, and according to our sources, it's coming to the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The 2010 MS3 has some huge shoes to fill after we fell in love with the current model during its time in the Autoblog Garage. We've gotten confirmation that the prototype spied at the Nurburging in October is, in fact, the new Mazdaspeed variant, although it's still unclear what turbocharged engine is being fed by that massive hoodscoop.

Early reports indicated that Mazda's boffins were hard at work retuning the current turbo'd 2.3-liter four-cylinder for duty in the 2010 model, but why invest the time in an upgrade when there's a perfectly suitable – and hugely powerful – 2.5-liter five-cylinder available from the Ford parts bin? The turbocharged Duratec fitted to the 2010 Focus RS seems like the obvious choice, with 295 hp and 302 lb-ft of torque being channeled to the front wheels through a six-speed manual and limited slip differential. We can hope – no, pray – this is Mazda's plan. And we're going to find out in just over two months time.

No need for a 2.5L Duratec when the direct injection 2.3L MZR-L3 VDT works just fine. The Aussie Mazda 3 MPS Extreme makes 281hp and 313 Lbs/Ft of torque stock. People are making that just with an exhaust and SRI/CAI.

Too bad it's still wrong wheel drive .
