love.....300+ hp from a factory internal motor...for what looks like very little in add on parts. and hks is still testing the boundaries.

then again, it is the SAME block that is in the EVO X and the SRT4 caliber so i would hope it could hold some power.
2i genesis has stronger internals then evo x ... at least the rods are ... see page 3
hks is far from boundary...400+ is safe with proper tuning...people already turning it up to 360whp

ferg ---- you just hatin ... it is no where near cheep

Gonna have to see if any dealerships nearby have some to test drive.. though I'm sure it'll be a disappointment to drive coming from the 8

Performance numbers can be spot on, but I wouldn't drive it on looks alone. I don't think the car is attractive at all, not hating, just not diggin' the style.

From my little research, to answer my own question, the 2 chassis go like this: BH is the sedan and BK is the coupe. The BK is a shrunk version of the BH architecture and for some reason is too small for the V8 supposedly.

Again, I just don't see the logic in calling both of these 'Genesis'. It shows a lack of sophistication when a company's naming abilities are so limited, e.g. Ford with the GT that should have been called GT44 or Pontiac throwing the GTO moniker on a car that had no heritage to go with the name and looks that belonged on a front wheel drive rental.

Whew. Rant over .

Paul.

The huge amount of hype makes me not like the car. I don't see anything about it that would make me drool over it.

In my opinion its more of the same.

The only unique thing about it is the fact that its a hyundai.

Im just happy that the little company is going to the rear end, about time they realize it. 2 wheels to steer, 2 wheels to push.

It is thier first endeavor into this market segment though. and being thier first FR I would expect issues and on top of that its a first model year.....at least thier engine isnt blowing anytime soon in the 2 liter. the GEMA (global engine manufacturers association) has been using that block for some time now.

I wont bash them until the US ones show up to be crap, but for 20k for 2liter turbo and 1G in mods you have more power than the V6....not hard to figure there. I am still not partial to the looks, but maybe its due to the aggresive nature of the 8.

however the sales guy did call me to let me know a 2.0 is coming on the truck so ill get to see if i can hear a rattle and i def wont be driving the AT....ill bring the video camera and tell him its for my girl to watch later

So you looked at it and walked out? FAIL. That is no test drive!

If the dealer said, "only if you put a deposit, will I let you test drive it" then tell him/her, "bitch shut the front door and give me the keys. I'm the one with the dough not you"

i looked at it, said meh then got back into my car and drove away while the sales rep was heading our direction.

"Genesis" name: I tried to figure that out too my guess is that it will eventually be the name of the Hyundai luxury brand (like Lexus, Acura, Inifinity)... I know "luxury" and "Hyundai" seems a bit oxymoronish, but a long time ago here in the US people would have said the same thing for Honda.

As for the Ford GT... Yep I agree 100%... Shoulda been named the GT44.

They probably used it to signify their rebirth. the genesis of a new era, if you will.

Not saying it's a good idea, but it's an idea.

I don't really follow.. considering their trademark way of building a car still went into the car.. it's built cheaply and corners were obviously cut in order to cut price, as was highlighted by that video review.

I'm not exactly seeing how they're doing something new apart from it being RWD..

And yea, I agree, it looks real ugly.

Man... People can pick over every little thing they want (looks? petty much?)
Heres the bottom line... the 8 just got raped.... again.... and both times in less than a year... first we got the 370Z that just stepped up and separated the classes between mazda and nissan... and now...

for 19 grand... and a turbo upgrade (check out youtube genesis coupe dyno run)
you can put down 360 wheel horse power...

Are you serious guys? I love my car but damn! mazda is not putting up much of a fight here...

Jesus, i just threw 3 grand at my car and am PRAYING for an even 200 to the wheels...

matter of fact... heres the link.

man... I can just see the faces of these people hating the "style" when these blow up and our 8s are getting smoked CONSTANTLY by hyundais... until its one of those cars on the street that you say, man i dont wanna **** with that.... aaaaand... it costs less... (thats why I hate hondas... Its just not fair... )

They are trying to rebuild their image. New beginning. genesis = beginning...

Is this one of those things that only makes sense in my head? My wife and I were talking about my problem with that the other day.

Yes it costs less, yes it has more power; and yes, the 8 is going to get whipped due to it's low HP/torque. Oh well... life goes on. I would not trade in my 8 for this Hyundai if they gave me a straight up trade. You KNOW that they had to cut corners somewhere to reach this price point. Please note the 8 is 6 years old, I would like to see these cars in 6 years and how they are holding up.

I'd really wish someone would start a thread just dedicated to bitching about the 8, and no other bitching in any other thread would be tolerated. Everyone knows the 8 is underpowered with bad MPG. I BOUGHT my 8 for it's looks, handling, and just overall coolness factor KNOWING about underpower and bad gas mileage. I do not race (yet), or street race, like to travel with my 2 year old daughter, carry up to 3 female passengers, and am secure in my masculinity so I do not need to 'blast' the SRT-4 next to me.

But yes, Mazda does need to step up to the plate and at least improve MPG and lower their price a bit. That is all I think is needed. They do not need to compete with the 370's of the world.

ok, so we are now comparing cars from 2003 to cars that came out in 2009?. dont get me wrong, te 8 is slower then this new car. but i dont race, so it really doesnt mean all that much to me. also i feel that 99% of the owners here just own the car for pure enjoyment, and not caring if they can compete against car B.

It looks pretty good. And Hyundai sent a prototype turbo-4 to HKS to show the aftermarket potential. Made about 300 bhp with upgraded internals....???

In my eyes, this is a good step forward for Hyundai. However they've never really built a car like this. There will be problems in the first few years. Not because Hyundai half assed it or anything, its just their first attempt at this sort of thing and every car company has issues with a new design, engine, transmission, etc that they just couldn't predict. Thats just how the car business works.

My eyes are more focused on the new Speed3

I suppose the S2000, Cayman, Boxsters, TT, Z4, MX-5 must really really disappoint given that they are 2-dr sports cars. Hmm..... Do you even own an rx-8 or really a Tiburon driver? Because if you really own an rx-8 and hav thrown in allegedly $3000 in mods to break 200whp, then you really fail miserably in car tuning.

Traditionally Hyundai sources its engines from Mitsubishi. Seems like this one is no different. A variation of the Mitsu 2.0t engine. Should be good.
