GM may be ensuring the Camaro remains the faster car. As far as keeping the Corvette on top that is not a problem for them even if they share the BASE engine with the Camaro. They still have the Z06 with 500hp and the rumored SS (AKA "The Blue Devil") with north of 600hp! Even if they share the base engine it's not that big a deal...I've got an issue of C&D that has the base Vette with 400hp accelerating faster than the 500hp Mustang GT500 (more than 3 sec faster from 0-150)...and of course the Camaro is going to be heavier than the Vette. It should be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out!
BTW, concerning the "SS" or "Blue Devil"...Bob Lutz said it will NOT be s/c....and will be N/A...with a larger discplacement than the LS7 He mentioned this a few weeks ago

I fell in love with them because it was the first car I ever bought with my own money. Baught one in 98 when i was in Cali (USMC) Had some great times driving down coast highway.

My guess would be 350hp for 30k for the SS

Its going to be competitive with the ford, not a mustang killer imo

Umm, no.

"Lutz won’t divulge engine details except to say the displacement of the new powertrain is greater than that of the pushrod 7.0-liter V-8 in the Z06."

A particular auto publication that shall remain nameless speculated about a Mustang Boss 330 that could possibly have about 389hp...I'm pretty sure if that publication is anywhere near the truth then there will be a Camaro putting down at least 400hp!

Oh it was Motor Trend! In the May '06 issue they did a bit of speculation and virtual number comparisons!

A Mustang 330?! Man, if that were only true The new vette really doesnt need a new engine. It already puts out some good power but I think it could use a new suspension tune. Maybe make it more lighter just my .02

Of course they will. I was saying Chevy is having a hard time making their V6 version competitive with Mustang pricing. They are cutting corners to do so and that worries me.... not that I would buy the V6 but a V6 version is vital to the Camaro's success.

Link?

This it the first i've heard of this. I'd prefer a N/A engine in the Vette. They've been testing a S/C engine, what happened to that thing?

If GM is smart, they'd put a v6 with between 260-300 hp in it sort of like the 3.6 liter that's in the G6 GTP. That would make the bread and butter version more appealing to the bread and butter Mustang, and a decent performer in it own rite. This engine would be more impressive than whatever v8 cause it would say, even in base trim Chevy's commited to performance with the Camaro.

The best part about all the LS engines is they are pretty interchangeable. They can be moded around to oblivion. The SS or Z28 version of the camaro will have at least an LS2 if not the LS3.

I can't wait for these engines to come out because it will lower the price of parts for my LS2!
