We had did, it was called the Contour and it didn't sell very well. It was actually a pretty decent little car, but the fact that it failed once means Ford probably won't try again.

The Contour was ugly and it was small. It drove great though in the V6 SE version.

It was just another marketing research failure by Ford just like they currently are experiencing.

This car is not small by any measure, and would easily fit into the American midsize sedan market

Just move their entire Euro lineup here, keep the F150, then call it done, BOLD MOVES! The new corp grille is SO BAD, and its on every one of their new cars!

I think the Euro cars should fill out Mercury's line up, as Opel has done for Saturn. Then pour some money into Lincoln and compete with Caddy. I have an idea that this will be the game plan, its just a matter of how quickly Ford an get its collective **** together.

I'm convinced it's because Ford doesn't like selling cars in North America.

I'm pretty sure this is how things work within Ford:
"Alrighty, lets turn this ugly wildebeest loose on the American market - we'll call it the 500. That ought to send all our customers running. Now, for Europe, lets borrow styling cues from cars that people actually want to purchase. That ought to **** off the people in our home market."

Nice looking interior too..
the contour really sucked tho.. the idea that everything should be round, including the stereo, was just plain retarded. the engine was good, sure, but as a whole, i hated that car.

I've never been a GM fan, but at least they are starting to import the better quality cars and platforms built outside the US.

Ford just keeps on sticking with old, tired, and uncompetitive.

I dont know why this hasnt been asked, but how did they squeeze 220hp out of a 2.5L!?!? the 'norm' is about 180hp for an engine of that size. Thats more than the IS250 2.5L V6 from Toyota/Lexus!! I do understand that more cylinder = more power with the same displacement.

I think the 2.5L from Toyota/Lexus is underpowered.

I think there are various things they can do to the engine to give it more HP for a given displacement. It may have higher HP but the torque may be low.

Nice, but the concept Isosisisisisis (LOL) was SUPER HOT yet Ford apparently is too foolish to realize. This car looks nice, and I agree the butt needs a bit of work (not that it's ugly, just too big) but I doubt Ford will bring it here.

Gosh...who is running that place? Sorry Brillo, I hope the best for you all but more than us this must FRUSTRATE the heck out of you.

Ford's just started trying to make things right. Give them a little time. You can bet that they are watching GM, and what they're doing with their world platforms, more than anyone else. Ford's biggest problem is sticking with old names (Taurus, for example). Thoses old names bring up old memories of crap quality, and driving characteristics. If they can get a new model line up and new names, they'd be ok. The last thing we need is another car named Tempo, I don't care how good a new one is .

+1!!
GM from my viewpoint is starting to seperate their brands into categories. Pontiac has been stated to be their RWD performance brand in the upcoming years, Cadi is their upscale brand.. Chevy is their all around brand. Ford should do the same and should of been doing the same. Hopefully the "bold moves" motto will actually sink in and make 'em realize "shyt people actually want us to make bold moves."

Agree about GM doing a better job at differentiating:

Cadillac: luxury and prestige
Pontiac: sporty
Chevrolet: entry level performance and value
Buick: old people cars

Saturn: import style and value?
GMC: Chevy trucks with a different grill

I think they should ax GMC Trucks and I'm really not sure what the point of Saturn is.

Ford should be:

Lincoln: Cadillac and luxury import competitor
Mercury: stylish import focused cars
Ford: general value, sport and trucks/suvs

Was this the rental car James Bond had in Casino Royale?

And if they bring this over, they should bring the Sport Ka as well!

Also, why does Ford need both Lincoln and Mercury? I honestly don't understand the distinction between the two.
