2007 redesigned Camry
I was kind of impressed by the looks of the new Camry until I started reading through the comments and saw this.
Front looks like a Mazda 3 all stretched out. Back looks like a Mercury Milan or something.

For me the Milan looks infinitely better, particularly the interior. The Milan's a nicer alternative for the mid-size market. The only thing the Camry has going for it is Toyota's reliability history. The Merc should steal a few sales, I think.

The Camry is just bland, bland, bland.
The Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan twins, which are Mazda 6 chassis based vehicles, should add some ZoomTM to the mid-sized sedan driving experience.

A six speed automatic would be nice, on the inline 4.
The 2Gr-fe has enough power and good enough mileage (see 22/31 in avalon on premium fuel) that the five speed auto would suffice.
The new lexus camry ES400 1gr-fe 300hp, enough power and especially torque to put the RL in its place.

Toyota is taking a page from Nissan and stuffing their 3.5L in as many models as possible.
Now its making more power than the Altima! this is a real hp war going on between toyota and Nissan now.
The new V6 camry will make 268hp and 248lb-ft of torque!! considering the V6 altima can already do 0-60 in 5.9s, the new camry should easily be a mid to high 5 second 0-60 car. Toyota is changing their image! even a 6spd auto transmission

to put that in perspective, it now out power cars such as Acura TL (258hp), Altima SE-R (260hp), Eclipse GT (263hp), Maxima (265hp), WRX (230hp)... amongst others

hunh the Miller Cycle like that used on the Millenia is a type of Atkinson Cycle

The Atkinson cycle may also refer to a four stroke engine in which the intake valve is held open longer than normal to allow a reverse flow into the intake manifold. This reduces the effective compression ratio and, when combined with an increased stroke and/or reduced combustion chamber volume, allows the expansion ratio to exceed the compression ratio while retaining a normal compression pressure. This is desirable for good fuel economy because the compression ratio in a spark ignition engine is limited by the octane rating of the fuel used, while a high expansion ratio delivers a longer power stroke and reduces the heat wasted in the exhaust. This makes for a more efficient engine. Four stroke engines of this type with forced induction (supercharging) are known as Miller cycle engines.

I could be wrong, but I believe the Atkinson cycle actually sacrafices HP for efficiency. The Miller cycle engine can increase HP as well as efficiency, since the mixture in the chamber now has to fight the pressure from the SC to escape back through the intake valve during compression. I'm not exactly sure why though and I'm a political science major, so i could be totally wrong. lol

hmm, im not an expert in this, but it seems the 3.5L toyota engine has some technology that allows it to get really good MPG for its hp rating, i think close to 30 highway on the 306hp IS350 tune. i think its Direct Fuel Injection, that seems to allow better MPG without sacraficing power. of course this has nothing to do with atkinson vs miller cycle
So what we need is a DFI Miller cycle engine and we'll see some amazing numbers. I wonder how that would work on a V8 with cyl shutdown too. 35mpg+ V8 that makes 450hp? Possible maybe? Would certainly be an amazing engine.
