The 2005 Sti

I took my Mom to Subaru, because she's about to trade her 2001 Outback Wagon in for a new one at summer's end for a 2005 model. They had an 05 sti in silver in showroom. GOOD LORD!! I certainly don't like it's looks as much as the rx8, but it is certainly a nice looking machine. It now has a radio standard,m and auto climate control. the 05 model is basically a more user friendly all around car then the 04 model. After sitting in car and chatting with dealer, he suddenly started throwing out numbers, and even mentioned trade in numbers on the rx8. I quickly put a stop to it, and told him as much as the sti appealed to me, I can't afford to buy one, and keep my rx8 at same time, and I refused to trade in the rx8 and lose money, so I stopped talking. I want both cars, because that power side of me is still there, and the rx8 simply can't cure that part of my car craze. We'll see if I will be able to trade in my old vw golf and buy an sti next year, although it's unlikely. I can still dream about it though.

the interior still sucks, but as a rally car, it's beautiful.

I would love to go for a ride in one.

Speaking of the WRX - did someone chase IkeWRX off the forum?

Nope... I was on vacation for a week I still can't decide if I like it better with or without the wing. Part of me thinks it looks good and balances the car out with it's aggresive front end, they other part of me thinks it's garish. It's quite common for some STi owners to swap lids with WRX owners who like the wing so the wing certainly isn't a deal breaker if you don't like it.

I think the sti looks great as is. If the ride had not been so harsh . . .

Veeeery nice. Veeeeery fast. I confess, the STi is on my shopping list, along with the 8. I even like the big wing.

BTW: The above picture is hilarious. It could only be Colorado, since the neighbor's driveway ALSO has a Subaru in it! :D

Wing>>>no wing

Its all part of the STi babby, got to love it!

And if you think that wing is bad, you should see some of the double deckers that are used on the real rally cars lol!

I hate the looks of the double decker wings on rally cars (I'm a rabid follower of the WRC). I understand the use on actual rally cars. But what makes me hate them are all the ricers who are copying it but have no idea why they only give the max benefit for rally use.

I almost got a WRX (can't afford an STi). Sometimes I still wish I had, but then I go for a ride in the 8... Maybe I can talk my wife into getting a WRX for her next car HEHEHEHE

I've just rode in one of my friends sti today, it runs mid to high 12's e.t all day, and i must say its a beast, every gear is like getting into a rear end accident the amount of torque is amazing. Honestly speed wise its the most bang for the buck car, with inexpensive modification options too. imho if you're looking for a car for the speed this is the beast for you not the 8 (or atleast not now )

I want both refinement and high performance. We'll see how long they continue to make it, and if and when I can afford it. I'd love to have one along with the rx8 to share my daily driving, and avoid wanting to trade in the rx8 when the mazdaspeed comes out. Unfortunately as of now, the rx8 doesn't offer the amazing power, but that's all it lacks, and overall I certainly like it more than the sti. I don't even know if I will like the sti though because it may just be too powerful to use as a year round car for me, and might become downright annoying, because of the rough ride. It's certainly gonna stay in my thoughts after sitting in one at the dealer, and although interior leaves alot to be desired, it's a definite cure for those of us who wish our rx8 was even close to the power level of the sti. We shall see!!!

if i was to buy a rally car, i'd go for the EVO. the STi is a nice one too, but all these cars are about is speed/performance, ugly looks that make girls walk away asap and mods. every single test i've read all those years (the battle seems to go on forever) the evo is quite faster. add that its an ultimate hardcore machine (subarus are more civilized), 6speed (at last), active diffs (they do make a huge difference) and better looking too....
sti are so common these days, i get to see at least 1 or 2 every day! Oh, and the wing... is that car in the photo a hyundai:D?

I see you are from Greece, so maybe you don't know this, but...the US STi is a unique STi. It is the only one that comes with the 2.5L turbocharged engine. It puts out 300hp and 300 ft/lbs tq. C&D 1/4 mile time is 13.2 for the STi and 13.6 for the Evo, so the STi is a bit faster in that respect. Also, since the STi has been available here for only a little over a year, they are not very plentiful. I have seen a grand total of 1 other STi on the road. Now that Mitsu is bringing over the Evo MR, we are hoping to see a 2.5L US version of the STi Spec-C.

Beautiful car, Ike. But I think you need at least a small spoiler to balance out the hood scoop.

I agree, it looks naked without any spoiler. The more I see em the more I think the spoiler on the STi balances the car out.
