KY 2005 Rear Sway Bar

I am new to the Rx8 communitty. I was wondering if the rear sway bar would have been factory. I have one bolted in the trunk. I am wondering if I remove this in order to put in a custom sub enclosure if it will affect the day to day driving. Or should I say how it will affect the handling. Now granted Im not a speed demon or in it for the racing. Mostly in it for show. It looks as a after market add on. Thanks for any help

It wouldn't be a sway bar. Those would be located under the car. What you are talking about is either the spare tire carrier or a rear brace that was added to the car. Either can be removed without a problem.

That's one funky looking rear brace - anyname on it? Have to say it does look like an anti-sway bar w/the way it's shaped. Whatever, it's not needed for a street car as the hidden factory brace is just there behind the rearseat and the padding you see in your pics. Is that yours or the OP?

That mount in the center of the bar has me curious. Could that bar have been meant for a camera mount? I've never seen the spare tire mount to know what that looked like.

Can't tell if this is sarcasm... but yes, this is the spare tire mount; I have one myself.

I think it's on backwards, though; as the center mount should be angled so that the edge of a mounted spare tire would run near the upper lip of the trunk opening, where it would butt up against a rubber spacer (part of the install kit).

The mounting brackets that extend out of the lining are also part of the kit and can be removed if desired.

That is the factory spare tire carrier. I have been looking for that bar but everyone wants an arm and a leg for it and I just want it to play with mounting my nitrous bottle on it.

Well, cool, here's your opportunity to get that one from the OP. In the GTO, I have my nitrous bottle mounted to a trunk brace. I guess it's similar to that one for the 8, and it sure worked well for me. Got the bottle off the floor of the trunk, and I can get a couple sets of golf clubs in there.
