2005 Corvette

It's almost time for the 2005 models to come out :D.

The car I am looking at this year is the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. With a new Gen. IV LS2 motor churning 400 hp, a shorter wheelbase, etc. I think this car will once again be a serious head turner. Personally, I have been a Corvette fan since I was eight years old . There is also an LS7 in the works. ZO6 anyone?

What do you guys think of the C6 Corvette?

Pretty sick. The new design makes it look like an import/exotic car.

the only thing that doesn't do it fo rme is the headlight. but the view form the tail end makes it look great. Hopefully the cheap interior of the Vette will eventually look like more than a glorified Camaro.

I think it's the best looking corvette ever. The ZO6 will definitely compete with the exotics on all levels now if they don't screw up on the interior.

Interior of the C6. Not quite a BMW or Audi, but much improved on the previous Corvettes IMO. You need Quicktime to view the link.

Definately better looking than the C5. C&D on Spike TV yesterday tested the new C6 & loved it. They said GM got the interior right this time. From I could see in the video it looked like they were right. The C6 is actually supposed to be $1000 cheaper than the C5 too. At $47000 its still outa reach for me though. That is if I want to be able to do things like eat

Speaking of the C6 being on TV, I saw it on Autoweek on Speed. I have to say Chevrolet did its homework. I hope they keep the racy-looking seats for the production model .

i saw the interior in person at the NYC car show and it is amazing........does not look cheap like the older vettes....my friend has a 98 vette......it looks like the just gave up when it was time to design the interior.....but I thing Chevy listened to its fanbase......the didnt cut any corners on the interior ....looks like a classy sports\exotic car now...

The interior is definitely a step up.
And its great that the car only weighs ~50lbs more than the last vette.

The real gem is odbviously the engine. yea its down 5hp on the current z06, but its got a much nicer tq curve and should prove to be almost as fast.

Oh and there will not be a C6 Z06....it will be the Z07

In Detroit vettes are a dime a dozen.. I'm already tired of seeing the 05!

Besides, I have always thought the vette was the mid life crisis car.

very cool car. I like the new design. The new headlights also agree with me. It looks similar to a ferrari.

They reviewed it on autoweek (don't know when it aired, it was recorded on my tivo). They had two colors during the show, silver and red. The only thing I didn't like about this car was the silver color. It just looked cheap, unlike the red, where it looks exotic.

I hope it handles as well or better than the current C5 Z06, the C5 Z06 is such a nice handling car, it beat out even the EVO in the figure 8 and was only a tad slower than the EVO in the slalom. Great handling isnt normally associated with American performance cars, but the current Z06 is a rare exception.

I like the new styling. Although flip-up headlights look good, when you have them up they really hurt the car's appearance.

Bad Tail end

In general I like it, and feel that is an improvement over the C5, but the tailend looks like it was chopped off prematurely. The end (from the back of the rear tire to the back of the car) seems very short. Performance wise it is a great car for the value especially with the Z51 package or the MSRC suspension. I would still never get it though. Too many negative conotations associated with that car (sorry, but shades of 50 year old men with gold chains around their necks and an open shirt, trying to be cool).

At this point I'll have to wait till I see it in person. I'm not completely sold on the front end...especially when put side to side with a C5.

classic american beauty says it all. This car is a looker and an instant classic, in a few years my next car may very well be a C6...heres hoping for that raise . Have you noticed how the car looks a little bit more like a viper, and the viper looks a little bit more like a corvette. I think this is more than coincidence, they're both tryign to appeal to eachothers audience. im not a big fan of flip up headlights so i gotta say i really love the nose i think thats what really does it for me.

I just watched Top Gear test the C6. I think they liked it overall.

They thought the fit and finish was poor. They said the interior materials are crappy, but I think they liked the look of it. Clarkson hated the plastic body panels, he just kept pushing them in.

They also organized a drag race between a Carrera, NSX, TVR, C6......Corvette got 3rd

I never really realized that the corvettes use leaf springs, they seemed to dislike that a lot. Also, they didnt care for the shifter or ride quality. The Stig got it around the track in 1:26.8 i think, faster than an elise, slower than evo

Personally, I dont think I would ever buy one of these, I am far to concerned with the little things. I wish they sold TVR over here.

The worst part of the Corvette was the transmission options. Apparently, the C5, and probably previous generations, came standard with an automatic. I hate slushboxes . The manual transmission was an option. I would expect something like this from a Toyota Camry, but never a Corvette. It is a real turn-off. Also, the C5 employed a system called CAGS, which stood for Computer Aided Gear Selection, which electronically moved you through the gears in the manual transmission. This makes shifting from first to third, or vice versa, virtually impossible without overriding the system. Corvette Accessories Unlimited sells a CAGS eliminator kit, which I believe you can switch the CAGS on and off. The C6 Corvette will carry over the CAGS system.

All C5's, even the Z06 had a transverse front leaf spring (I have no clue what that looks like), but it still handles quite well. Personally, GM should grow a pair and switch to a double wishbone design. Unfortunately, the double wishbone suspension does not allow for much room in the engine bay. The new 6.0 liter LS2 probably would not fit at all without widenening the track. Perhaps GM used the transverse leaf spring to keep costs down. I would love to see a Corvette with a smaller V8 to keep weight off the nose, a front double wishbone suspension (even the last Camaro SS/Trans-Am WS6 had one), a less clunky shifter, and better interior materials, such as Alcantara seats. Recaro anyone?

They could have done a lot more with the car. Why is GM so afraid to do the outrageous? At least the Cadillac XLR (or whatever they call it) is unique - they're trying.
The front end looks too generic. The back end looks unfinished - like it's been chopped off. Much better than the older model but still not quite there yet........

I like it. The front-end, especially with the integrated headlights, is a great improvement, in my opinion.

I'm glad to hear that GM may FINALLY be getting the interior upgraded. Always felt like I was in a Corsica or something on the previous models.
