2004 Le Mans

I must have been living under a rock; I forgot that the 2004 Le Mans took place on June 13 (I must've been at work). Audi wins again. This time, it was a Japanese entrant (Team Gho?). That's the first time since 1995 a Japanese entrant won the Le Mans. Do you guys think Mazda should try again for the Le Mans? I know it's not 1991, but I think Mazda has the resources again to make another go run. Just imagine a modern version of its 787B...

Here is a thread concerning the Le Mans and what the best car was. "The Right Hand" said it perfect.

Or read about it here:

I had forgotten the rotary engine was banned (it was the early 90's...I think I was into Legos or something). That reminds me of when turbochargers were banned from NHRA. I still don't understand why the Le Mans sanctioning bodies made the decision. So, the rotary engine won one Le Mans race. So what? I guess we'll never know if the rotary engine still has some magic left down the Mulsanne .

I mean, if people like Shaquille O'Neal can dominate his sport, why can't a machine?

Team Goh : Japanese team and driver indeed, however, as I witnessed on site, were also present at the Le Mans Endurance serie event at the Nürburgring last weekend :
- a Belgian team manager (stangely with a rather nordic name)
- a small army of German Audi/Bosch engineers
- some english guy(s)
- a French student engineer dealing with their tyres (I talked to him but I don't remember his name)

They tricked me . No I'm just kidding. I don't think it matters what ethnicity the staff is. The point is, the team is Japan-based, and therefore they should get the credit they deserve. Back in 1991, when they won (remember remember, do ya?), their drivers i.e. Volker Wielder were not Japanese. Probably the only thing Japanese was the Mazda logo. Oh yeah, let's not forget the product placing (Renown, Cibie, RAYS Engineering). I think that was Japanese too, well RAYS for sure (JDM wet dream ). Don't worry about the staff's race, ethnicity or whatever. If the team is based in Japan, it's based in Japan. Who's who shouldn't really be an issue. For example, look at team Ferrari. Michael Schumacher isn't Italian, he just happens to be employed. Let Japan bask in their victory, thanks to Team Goh, and let's look forward to Mazda crushing the Le Mans in the not too distant future .

I'm sorry. I just wanted to be anecdotically informative, nothing else. And I find multi-ethnicity a good thing. I just mentionned all this jbecause by a strange coincidence the team I work with as a consultant shared the pitlane position with them last weekend.

The Audi R8 looked absolutely great with its bodywork off! From what the French guy told me, this 2002 R8 FSI engine still is so performing Audi decided to keep an already existing upgrade for later.

Can't you get it from SAE? It is a technical paper BTW. Try eBay. They had some pretty mint-condition copies last time I went (April-something during engineering math :D).
