2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
For reasons I mentioned before, I think it is time for me to move on and trade in my 8. I'm looking at an SUV mainly because i just can't be driving around doing 110 all the time. The rotary and I are not a good combination. The car is just so smooth at high speeds that I cant resist going 110-120 almost every day. Anyway, i'm looking at a 2004 Grand Cherokee Overland. these things have all the options w/ navi. Now I know that the jeep 6 cylinder is a very reliable engine but I was wondering if the 8 cylinder is just as reliable. Also what kind of gas mileage should i expect out of the 8 cylinder? I get about 16-17 miles/gallon out of the rx8, mainly because I drive fast. I have always thought that the Grand Cherokee is the best mid sive SUV on the market. the combination of price, reliability, and styling cant be beat. Obviously there are other SUV's that are better than the jeep in each category, but overall i think the grand cherokee wins. It just sucks that every other car you see is a grand cherokee.

It is very reliable and they are fairly quick for trucks. My dad has an 04 Grand Cherokee V8 and he hasn't had any problems with it. He has had a 2000 V6 Grand Cherokee, a 2002 V8 Grand Cherokee and now his current 04. The interior is a little lacking in terms of quality but I think the Grand Cherokees are solid trucks; and they are easy to get power out of--especially with the broad aftermarket following they have.

The Overland has the high-output 4.7L V8 -- 265 HP and some shiny bits inside and out--its a solid truck. Might have a different suspension setup too---not sure about that.

I have an 04 Grand Cherokee.....but with the 6-cyl. Overall, I'm very happy with the vehicle, however, the 6 is a real slug in terms of performance and the gas mileage kinda sucks for a 6 - about 16 city and lucky to get 20 highway.
I would have to think that the V-8 would be much better in performance but worse for mileage....probably less than your 8.

My dads V8 performs well--they are very torquey--you can lay some rubber down with em, of course they run out of breath on the top end. The gas mileage is slightly lower than my 8--its actually not too much worse than the 6 cylinder.
