Well, was passing by the local dealership and saw the Crossfire. Stopped to take a look. Not bad design. Clean lines . . . and then I see the sticker. $34,000.00 MSRP. BUT A $10,000.00 ADDITIONAL MARKUP FROM THE DEALER . . . FOR A TOTAL OF $44,000.00. Are these dealers crazy?? This is no Corvette. Daimler Chrysler needs to get ahold of their dealers before they ruin Daimler Chrysler. That markup was disghusting.

Jesus... I was just on ebay cause I actually think the crossfire looks nice in person, and wanted to see try to some pics of the trunk area to see how small it and to see is if it is do-able for day to day use, that is when I saw what Donny Boy above wrote about a $10K markup, there are dealerships on ebay trying to get $44-$45K for the crossfire, what are these idiots smoking - for that price you could go for the Mercedes SLK.

Edit: I just emailed Chylser about the $5K to 10K price gouging on the Crossfire and added it isn't a good incentive for prospective buyers especially ones who are also looking at the Audi TT and a fully loaded Mazda RX-8.

I don't know why anyone would want this car to begin with anyway. It is SO tiny and you only get a 215hp engine for $34K. What a waste.

ok I got my response back from Chrysler about the severe price gouging. Here is the email:

Dear Mike:

Thank you for the email regarding Chrysler Crossfire pricing.

While your concerns are not taken lightly, there is nothing we can do to intervene in these situations. DaimlerChrysler dealers are independent business entities. They have purchased a franchise agreement that allows them to sell our vehicles retail in the marketplace. As a manufacturer, we are prohibited by law in setting the retail price on our products. The MSRP is actually a Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price for the vehicle. The dealer, as an independent business, is not bound by that price.

The sales agreement is a negotiated transaction between the independent dealer and the retail customer. DaimlerChrysler is not a party to that negotiation process. The Crossfire is a vehicle in high demand. As such, the dealer can often demand prices that reflect the popularity of the product in the marketplace. This action, though frowned on by DaimlerChrysler, is beyond our control.

Thanks again for the email.

I see I see. Not too sure if they B.S-ing me but I guess this is true since I have seen this many times before with cars, where dealers have massive mark-ups.

What do you guys think?

For $35K, give it a few years. It'll end up like the Prowler and the soon be gone the Thunder Bird.

Road&Track test conditions:

The Crossfire was tested on a hot day (93F) whereas the RX-8 was tested on a cool day (69F).

The Crossfire matches the RX-8’s acceleration despite the heat and a lower power-to-weight ratio.

Conclusion:
The RX-8 produces less than 238hp.

More importantly, am I the only one who thinks the crossfire is butt ugly? The front end is OK, but when I see that rounded rear end it just bothers me. I tried taking one for a test drive while waiting for my RX-8 paperwork to be done (daler had them on the lot as well) and it reminded me of my grandfathers Benz, only with no rear space. Car felt nice on the road, but I cant handle the looks of it at all.

Its based on an 8 year old Merc design and you thought it was going to 'kick butt' ?

You want looks??...you want simplicity??

Three cars that could come out:

1. VW Convertible, 4 inline, no electric gadgets, minimum weight (think they are trying to go below Miata stds). Don't know any HP figures.

2. Pontiac Solstice....well, Pontiac made...but who knows?
3. Dodge Razor, another minimalist approach....this time around by Dodge...again, who knows?

On a different note, the Crossfire started allright with the concept, until materials became a problem and they decided to use what was available. Thats the problem when function follows profitability.

Yes let me clarifiy, I thought it would kick butt BEFORE they mentioned the old SLK platform. It looked cool as a concept.

The pontiac Soltice looks cool, but who knows WHAT it will be when they do release it (if).

It's a prestige car for chrysler. It's a mercedes with a chrysler logo on it, in an attempt to help boost chrysler's image. Sadly, it's an OLD mercedes with a chrysler logo on it. They should be happy with the 300M and stay out of the little sport toy market altogether.

In the Crossfire's defense, I really like the styling. Seen it twice on the road. One time there was a new silver Mercedes SL500 behind it and I didn't even notice the Mercedes. It just blended in traffic compared to the charcoal colored Crossfire.

I see the Crossfire more as a GT car with more emphasis on cruising and less so in handling. I only worry about how well it will hold up over time even if well maintained. I could see that car becoming a classic in the future.

To me, $35k doesn't sound too bad for the Crossfire. Definitely not worth the additional markup though. Its probably the only Chrysler I would consider. I would be afraid to use it as a daily driver and more as a collectors car.

When I saw the car in person, it was much better than I expected...then again, when you expect the worst what isn't better?

I'm not sure I agree that it will be a collector car. There really is nothing special about it. The design isn't anything new, the performance isn't outrageous for its price range. In no way is it a revoulutionary vehicle. Possibly if they never sell any and it's a one year model, but even that won't qualify it to be a collector, that classifies it as a failure.

I do hope it suceeds, though.

Hot Crossfire shown in Frankfurt.

The specially tuned Crossfire develops 313kW and has a top speed of 300km/h. Tuning company Startech did the conversion. Power comes from a 6.1-litre V8. It will sprint from 0 to 100km/h in only 4.7 seconds.
