I wonder how much these Wedsport wheels would cost.

I wonder how much they weigh ... as if price were no object.

damn!

Honestly, I don't know much about materials, but isn't CF prone to cracking? If so, wouldn't these things be a very expensive headache?

j_tso 06-25-2008 09:13 PM

I would assume these would only be used for a couple of laps in a time attack.

NgoRX8 06-25-2008 09:21 PM

note it says DRY CARBON...........

8 Maniac 06-25-2008 09:30 PM

It all depends... they're claiming it as a somewhat newish technology and I'm guessing they have to make it up to a certain standard... especially to avoid a lawsuit of any sort. I'm not up to date on the technologies so I dont know if this could avoid these issues... how new is this concept? Anyone more informed able to help explain the process they're using?

illsuspect 06-25-2008 09:33 PM

how many of my organs would i have to sell...

Ajax 06-26-2008 11:35 AM

no matter what the price is, they actually look great!

JRichter 06-26-2008 11:37 AM

I want.

ATL-GP 06-26-2008 11:48 AM

mmmmmmmmm....I don't know about that....something about a carbon wheel makes me feel uneasy.

CyberPitz 06-26-2008 03:05 PM

Very awesome, I want....

Then I think about the wheels shattering when they hit something.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK!

DailyDriver2k5 06-26-2008 03:13 PM

Those are hot! I bet they put a super rezin to keep the carbon strength up to with stand the shock of bumps, etc.. .... hate to curb rash them, expensive to fix i bet?!

NgoRX8 06-26-2008 03:28 PM

lol, they're probably a couple grand per rim. It should be a crime if you curb rash them.

Feras 06-26-2008 03:46 PM

i took the survey we'll see. SInce i prolly won't be able to afford them i'll convince my dad to get a set for his bimmer and live vicariously through him.

paulmasoner 06-26-2008 03:51 PM

yeh someone find out how much these are... and how nasty it would be to curb them

champi0n 06-26-2008 04:15 PM

probably as expensive as buying an entire new rx8.

curb rash will result in the wheel needing replacement no doubt.

hitting a pothole that would usually give a regular rim a dent will totally kill these rims.

think of how much care is put into the removal of the CF driveshaft on our rx8's... in the service manual one sentences spans 6 pages.. "OMG FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T SCRATCH IT!"

There's a note on that other forum that projected it at 3k a wheel. If this pans out and it's as durable as most current wheels and weighs six freakin' pounds then they'll be hard to find even at that price. Everyone on the planet with a tracked car will be after these things.

Lots of ifs there tho.

Jeison 06-29-2008 11:48 AM

hmmm sell my other car and put down payment on house... or... buy rims... life is so hard

To be named later 06-29-2008 12:27 PM

Gimmie good old metal and steel anyday.

I'll let someone else be the guinea pig with a new technology.

pdxhak 06-29-2008 01:24 PM

With all the CF overlays today, I'm surprised someone has not done it yet. Cheaper with the look and not the worry of cracking a wheel.

You would only see these on a serious car. Any other car with rims appearing to be CF would be deemed as "fake cf stickers." Any serious car wouldn't rock rims with overlays. Therefore, cf overlays on rims = rice and the real deal = $$$
