'08, mazda kills off mazdaspeed 6 and mazda6 wagon

Mazda has released details about various changes for its 2008 model line, but only two points of interest concern us. Both the MazdaSpeed6 and Mazda6 Sport Wagon have been discontinued for the 2008 model year. The demise of the Sport Wagon comes at the hands of higher demand for the standard Sports Sedan and Mazda6 5-door. We say too bad, as the Mazda6 Sport Wagon was a kiddie hauler with some attitude, and we're surprised it gets the shaft before the 5-door sedan hatchback model.
If everyone could now take a moment to tip their 40-ounce for the all-wheel-drive MazdaSpeed6... thank you. This was a unique sports sedan, if based only on the fact that it utilized a turbo four-cylinder producing 270 horsepower rather than the more common 3.5L-and-above V6 mills that so many other automakers choose for their sports sedans. Some say it had a harsh ride, we say it was sharp. And the hood bulge, fender-filling wheels and dual-exhaust should tip you off anyway that this isn't milktoast.
One glimmer of hope that was found in Mazda's press release is the fact that the all-new Mazda6 (did you see the spyshots?) will not be a 2008 model, but more likely a 2009. So, if the fates are on our side, and we believe they are, the MazdaSpeed6 will return in a couple of years after the new model debuts and gets settled in. This time, however, we doubt it will packing as few as four cylinders.

so what did it have, 05 through 07 models i guess for the speed 6. not to bad, not sure what the exact sale numbers were, but i doubt it was ever intended as a high volume seller, more along the lines of a limited production "fast" car.
It served it's purpose in my mind, time for something better.

The Wagon I'm sad to see go since it did look very nice and a decent alt. to the Dodge Magnum in terms of overall good looks/appeal. The 5 door hatch to me atleast is kinda pointless since its on a 4 door sedan styling rather than a slightly stretched coupe styling (way I see the 3's hatch anyways). I'm sure some decent advertising boosting the wagons appeal and praticality would of done it wounders, have a old style ugly station wagon then a shot of the 6's and yeah people would get it "This isnt grandma's wagon anymore."
Now the MS6 is a slight surprise but isnt the MS version supposed to be limited runs anyway? Be interesting to see what they come out with once the new model comes out. And yeah has to be said.. a MS8 before a new MS6 would be ever so nice and kind of them lol.

If I bought a 'sports sedan', the MS6 would have been very close to the top of my list.
The new 6 looks really promising (I work near MNAO R&D) so hopefully the MS version will be back in 2-3 years and give the Subbie and Mistsu boys a run for their money. (assuming Mitsu is even around in 3 years)

stop flooding ur engines
first of all, its not NEWS that the ms6 isnt gonna be here for 08. MS cars are only here for two years as a maximum. hey duh the speed 3 will be gone after 08. what a suprise. they are limited number cars anyway. as for the wagon saying bye bye will anyone evn notice? not me. we sold like 2 in the past 8 months....everyone gets the 5 door imo, it doesnt look like a boring wagon and it packs almost as much stuff for less money and u dont HAVE to get CAPTAIN OIL LEAKS MCGEE mr 3.0l ford v6 in it, u can opt for the 2.3l
i love the ms6 and itd be number one on my list if i was a normal person wanting a sedan, u kno the next ms6 will be ruined bc american owners want big *** engines. the next one will be the 3.5l v6 with awd thats prolly it man, nothing fun about it.
id rather have a 4 cylinder huffin 300hp than have a ho hum v6 makin 300 hp.
300 from a 4 banger is way more impressive than 300 from a 6. but, o well, ythey will do what it takes to please normal american buyers, which is not me...
think, the ms6 makes 270 from a 2.3
fords 3.5 doesnt even equal that! its freakin over a liter bigger with two more pistons for gods sake! so next gens ms6 will have that big *** pos engine with the SAME power from the old ms6>? no thanks.....3 yrs from now when my 8s paid off and i settle down from my sports car phase, ill be in the wanted ads lookin for the 07 ms6 bc i already kno itll be more of a focused drivers car than the next one......
long live the 2.3l DISI turbo!!!!!!!

Besides, I stopped posting a lot of stuff from AB a month or two ago when I was asked. Still doesn't change the fact that this news is months old.

The hatch is definitely not pointless. More cargo capacity and much easier access to it.
