07 Passat Coupe

Saw it in C and D but was a photo chop, here's a link to an article, pictured is the 4 door which we've seen already...but the article, as well as many others do say in 07 at Frankfurt VW will have another coupe, first since the Corrado. Engines rumored to be offered include a 280 hp version of the VR6.....should be interesting....Automobile (see link) also says a turbocharged 400HP version is a possiblilty. STyling takes cues from the CLS Benz in terms of sharp pillars.....

Bleh. Why try to make a big heavy car exciting? Why not just build an exciting car?

Looks and performance aside, I don't know any people that would fork over >50K for a VW when they could have an Audi, MB or BMW instead.

'Bout darn time. vwvortex.com posted some unofficial concept ideas, I think, back in '99 or '00 of a Passat coupe. That was right after the first serious redesign in '98. So I'm surprised they didn't try to make it earlier when sales numbers began to decline to rebuild interest in the line.

Even if they price it in the mid-high 30's, my original point still stands. Most people if given the choice between a 38k VW and a similarly priced (insert competitor brand in that segment) will pick the other brand just based on the badge factor. It's what killed the Phaeton, even though it seemed like a great car.

Have to agree with Christian, I'd much rather have a Caddy CTS, an Acura TL, or an Audi A6. Or add 10k and get a Vette.

Some sources are saying the base models are to start around 25K. I don't disagree with you, just real curious on the price=while labeled as the Passat coupe, its spirit is the successor to the Corrado-which, was more of a Z-rx8 type car, so, while I agree with you on the Phateon problems, if they pack 280HP into a 32 or so package, i still will call it intersting to say the least, would I buy it? not sure, but still cool.

VW needs to come out with a luxury brand if they ever want to sell luxury cars, and even then with the reputation they have with quality, it will be an uphill battle...

Agreed. When there's competition, the consumer always wins.

Bleh. Creating new expensive cars like this or the Phaeton costs major time and money. VW would be much better off spending that improving the long-term reliablilty of their existing models, which is still pretty poor.

again, its not expensive. its supposed to be priced like the rx8. I don't disagree with you on Phateon, but quite frankly if anyone builds a good handling car with decent power numbers in a good price, there's not shame to at least inquire. I'm not saying I want the passat though, but not sure where these impressions that its gonna be super expensive are coming from. The articles say the car starts at 25K.
