'06 Pontiac GTO for $29k
'06 Pontiac GTO for $29k
My brother has a chance to get an '05 GTO for $28k or an '06 GTO for $29k. The fleet manager is the one he's working with. Apparently my brother refers a lot of business to his dealership so he's making it sound like this is his way of paying him back. Hmmm. Edmunds.com lists the MSRP for the '06 model at $31.3k and invoice at $29.6k.
Is this really a deal or just another sales ploy?

sounds like a decent price but its not a deal, they have tons of factory to dealer incentives. should be able to bargain it another 1000 bucks lower. www.carbuyingtips.com explains how all this works

I wanted a Holden Monaro since they first came out. I remember Car and Driver doing a comparison in '99 or '00 (I think) where they put the Monaro up against an M5. It's sad that GM brought the car over here when it was getting long-in-the-tooth compared to the competition. It's also sad that GM has canceled plans for a new GTO. '06 will be your friend’s last chance to get one new. I say opted for the appearance package and go for it!
If this is true that SUCKS I wanted one. They are actually very nice.
When I read that in MT my jaw hit the floor and I was very disappointed in GM, they gave up on the car when it was a pretty dang good car! If it was cheaper I would have looked into it more…but it was just to dang heavy and heavy footed for my taste.
What a shame...to top it off, they gave the GTO name a black eye with their wayward dedication.
Note: Maybe since they are going to bring the Camaro back they decided that they can't have both...while I think there would be a market for both unless they are going to stupidly price the Camaro into the 30's.

The '04s did not sell well. The '05s picked up considerably after the 6.0L LS2 was dropped in and hood scoops added, haha.
I see quite a few around town. I do live in a southern state though.... take that for what's it worth.
Maybe they are prepping for the return of the Firebird along w/the Camaro????

I drove one several times at the last Auto Show in Motion event. I totally agree the seats are VERY comfy, would not might driving around in those seats on long cruises. That car is loads of fun to gun around in first gear and break rear traction in turns. Even though the car felt heavy, it handles surprisingly well and has a ton of grip. If it only had better exterior looks then I believe it would have done alot better.
Show some proof that they are scrapping the GTO. I thought they were going to give it another new body style and make some tweaks for the 2007/8.
I have been wanting that car since the 05's hit the lot and now the SAP makes the car look amazing. See a SAP 05 or 06 in person and your mind will change very fast.

Thanks for the info fellas. It sounds like my brother is going to check with some other local dealerships to see exactly how great this quote is. I honestly doubt he'll end up getting the car now. He was under the impression that the '06 GTO was a $40k car when he initially spoke to the fleet manager. Getting a $40k car for less than $30k is worth considering, but getting a $33k car for $29k doesn't exactly have the same appeal. We shall see.
Part of me wants him to get the GTO, but the other half of me (the jealous bitch side) doesn't want him to because I'm not sure if my modded Evo is as fast. Since my little brother is currently driving an '02 Dodge Stratus RT, my horsepower ego is happy with the status quo.

^Well, your EVO and the GTO should be neck and neck so you aint going to be de-balled or something. It will be a driver’s race...mod your EVO and you take the lead, he mod’s his GTO and he probably would take it back.
No shame...stop being a jealous bitch...lol
, it's your brother for crying out loud.
lol
Go to the store and buy the new MT and you will see for yourself. I think it's a done deal...the GTO is dead, but I hope MT is wrong and we do see a new GTO. Honestly, I think they are going to stick to the Camaro and Firebird...or just the Camaro.
Trust me...I hope MT is wrong, I like the GTO...but what can you do...
