***unofficial***The new GT-R pull out a 7:38 in the 'Ring
Don't think this is a repost
not official
but the new GT-R the non evo version pulled out a time quicker than the 911 Turbo

We'll start by saying that it's not exactly hearsay, but it's not anywhere near official, either. Take one 997 Porsche Turbo that has lapped the 'Ring in 7:40, practically fast enough to form one of those Stargate SG-1 vortexes behind it. Then take one Nissan GT-R, benchmarked against that Porsche Turbo, and flog that baby around the 'Ring as fast as possible. Add a few reporters on hand with stopwatches. And when the GT-R flies past the finish line, the reporters discover those stopwatches have come to rest after just 7:38.
So the story is that the GT-R is two seconds faster than the 911 Turbo on the Nurburgring. And the Skyline in the photos doesn't even look to be the mad-gunner EVO-spec version. If that's the case -- and yes, that's a big if -- and say you allow for the inaccuracy of handheld stopwatches and add two seconds, so the GT-R did the same time as the Porsche Turbo... Well, we're not crowning a victor, or speculating about the whats and whys, or what will happen when the real timed laps in production versions are done... we're just saying that's pretty good. That's all.

I don't know how true this can be, but
multiple sites have said timings to be similar

Nissan reps would not divulge any specific lap times, but they hinted that something under 7:35 may have been achieved. Regardless, it's clear that Nissan's goal of overtaking the 911 Turbo has been achieved in a big way.

It's also RUMORED that since matching the 911 turbo is in the bag, the GT-R is gunning for Carrera GT's time of 7:28.
Seems a bit of a stretch to find 10 seconds, but on the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if it did match it since the course is so long, and from hearsay, the Carrera GT is not the most forgiving car to drive.
I hope they don't hurt themselves trying to match that time.

The shooters at KGP were back at the Nurburgring shooting everyone's favorite Godzilla-mobile, and in addition to finally seeing some badging on the grille and bumper of Nissan's GT-R revival, we finally get a clear view of the front fascia and rear end. While the back still remains somewhat obscured, the front leaves about as much to the imagination as a Dita Von Teese spread in Maxim.
The talk of late was that Nissan's boffins hoped to beat the GT-R's main rival, the Porsche 911 Turbo, around the North Loop during testing. But according to the folks at KGP, they've set their sights higher and are looking to match the time of the Porsche Carrera GT. That's a loft goal considering that the Turbo does the deed in 7:40, while the Carrera GT (with Walter Roehl behind the wheel) can complete a lap of the 'Ring a full 12 seconds faster. We wish both Nissan and their hired hot-shoes the best of luck.

ZO6 has $70k msrp.
New GT-R is expected to start at $68k msrp.
I read unconfirmed reports that the ZO6 lapped the Ring in the low 7:40s.
New GT-R was hand clocked at 7:38 and is now gunning for 7:28.
I think both are great cars, but with a rear-biased AWD, I'd opt for the new GT-R at that price point.

Yet, I wonder if it's going to affect ZO6 sales significantly. Aren't most Corvette buyers purchasing it due to its iconic status, heritage, or just because it's die-hard American metal?

Its more of a threat to the Z06 and the regular 911 than the base vette i think. I think there are a lot of people that buys the Vette for its value, bang for the buck and good looks factor, not necessarily because they are die hard vette or chevy fans.

the same reason we boguth ours 8's rareity, i would much rather have a GTR then a ZO6 because there will be mcuh less of them. but if you want to get soemthing rare get the ZR-1, only problem is it will still look like a corvette.
damn look how big those rear pipe are!

No way its not the Evo spec making those times unless Nissan is completely lying to people about horsepower and weight. The only problem I have with the car is no manuel tranny, the base might get one but not the other two trims.

Here is some unofficial exterior and interior colors as well as features.
The GT-R, which makes its official debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in one months time, will be available in several different trim levels, including a base, premium, and Black Edition GT-R. No more calling this car the Skyline GT-R; Nissan is officially dropping the "Skyline." If you live in Japan, you will be able to take the car to one of 160 new Nissan High Performance Centers for repair and servicing. These sites are being created specifically to support GT-R customers.
Inside, base and premium buyers will be able to choose between black and gray. Black Edition purchasers will automatically get a black interior. Outside, six colors will be offered on the GT-R: Dark Metal Blue, Super Black, Titanium Gray, Ultimate Metal Silver, Vibrant Red, and White Pearl. Ultimate Metal Silver and White Pearl will cost a bit more.
These details will be officially released by Nissan later today.
Premium edition and Black edition GT-Rs get gunmetal Rays brand wheels surrounded by Bridgestone Potenza tires to give you an edge on the road. This available as an optional upgrade on the base edition, which comes standard with chrome Rays and Dunlop Sports tires.
A Bose sound system will let you jam comfortably in the premium GT-R, but you'll have to pay a little more to get this luxury in the base and Black levels. Also standard on the premium: an anti-theft system. No matter which model you pick up, you will have to shell out some more cash for side and SRS curtain airbags.
So if you're trying, like Nissan is, to break the Nürburgring lap record with this car, you may want to pick up those extra airbags. The GT-R's 3.8 liter twin-turbo engine, producing up to 550hp, just might kick your ***.

I read that the three trims are convenience trims, not performance trims.
I thought there was no official horsepower and weight figures published yet.

From what I've read and heard the Base and Mid class model are 480bhp with unknown weight (guestimated being anywhere from 3300 to 3600) with the Evo model shedding 200lbs and with 530bhp. Convenience packaging being whatever comes with each respective vehicle, with the Base potentially being the only one that gets a true 6-speed manuel tranny.

For that matter, though, I think most can't properly drive the RX-8 at its power levels. Giving someone the keys to a Z06 or GT-R should be borderline illegal.

ok the GT-R and 911 turbo both having inferior power and torque /weight ratio to the Z06 are faster at the ring despite being quite a bit heavier than the Z06... what does that say about the z06 platform and its handling?
