Hi all, will be getting my car soon and have opted not to have it delivered with tinting. I woud like to get it tinted however, and would appreciate any experiences that anyone has had or what you would recommend (which brand and hopefully which installer) has done a good job for you.

I think the two brands out there which provide best quality & end results are V-Cool and 3M. They are not cheap (1k range) but I guess you pay for what you get. (Highest blockage of UV and IR in the market.)

I got 3M becoz I got a very good (contra) deal for it thru my wife -- and she is huge on UV protection. But nevertheless, i am pretty chuffed with it. I also like the 3M becoz it doesn't interfere with the ERP's RFID reader signals -- so they don't cut any holes for the cash card reader.

actually v kool is no longer the market leader. it was, when it first started.

as for u pay for wat u get, this is no longer true for solar film. cool n lite has the same specs as 3M premium film. and they do not need to cut any holes too for the cash card reader as well.

altho not as branded, they are by far the best value for money and far surpass other films in ters of specs like tintsy cool, rike cool, lextint, ray barrier and other cheaper ones.

i did my homework before deciding to go for cool n lite. service is tops, salesladies are cute, sweet n pretty, workmanship is top notch...

Original is only the rear, was thinking of doing the front passenger windows and front windscreen too...

previous rides included since RX8 is too new for inspection

Front 95% Infra Red and 100% UV rejection
Rear 98% Infra Red and 100% UV rejection.
(this is the top range quality 3M window films)
with free custom size 3M floor mat (can select colors)

All for only $750

I have 3M installed too. Downside is that at a certain angle, transparency is slightly compromised. My previous flim was from nanolux, it was more transparent but somehow i felt the heat reisistances diminishing after about 1.5 years.

Overall i am 75% satisfied with the 3M. Heat resistance is quite good.

there is another one..call perfect tint at Kaki bukit road 2...come with 3M car mat ( those cut to size type) for your car when you do the tinting....less than $400...

Mine is done by thermal guard, pretty transparent and not really what I want. Yes I'm also thinking of tinting my front passenger side! The frustration when you pulled up and the other car look into inside So anybody done that already?

Wonder if it still okie to tint dark on top the thermal guard.

is it accurate to say that we should look at the Total Solar Energy Rejection percentage instead of UV and IR Rejection if my priority for tinting is to reduce as much heat as possible from outside?

yes.. all tinted film give u 99% or 100% UV rejection...

the thing to look at is infra red... thats the heat rejection...

i understand that. but what i meant to ask was.. is the Total Solar Energy Rejection factor a better component to look at compared to the IR Rejection in terms of heat rejection?

Reason i asked is bcoz most if not all tint brands only display the common factors such as the Visible Light Transmission, UV and IR Rejection, but if u actually get into details of these brands in their website there's also the Total Solar Energy Rejection component which they include in their specs. And 1 shop mentioned to me that that is the component to actually look at if i am concern about heat rejection.

cos it may look beautiful and nice now. but when I comes to inspection it will cost much more to have the dark films remove than install.

It best to stick to the max allowable by the LTA.

I thinks is 70% for front and 50% for rear.

The most important job of the Window film is to block off UV and InfraRed
1) tanning and burning are both forms of skin damage caused by UVA & UVB radiation
UV also damage the plactic and leather parts with in the car.
2) As for Infra Red I guess everyone knows about the Green House effect.

So the 2 main job of a Window Film is to block off as much UV and IR as possible.
As for the Tint of the film it has little effect in reducing the heat/temp within the car.

Light transmittance for the front windscreen and two front passenger windows must be at least 70% and for the rear windscreen and the rear passenger windows must be at least 25%.
