Question What's your average running temp?

Hello everyone in Asia,

I am wondering if other's have problem with the heat in their RX-8. I wanted to know what was your average coolant temp in traffic and cruising. I went thru alot to lower my coolant temp and aircon is now working like a regular car.

My car:

Heavy traffic situation -
Outdoor temp - 34 celsius
Intake Air temp - 53 celsius
Engine Coolant temp - 102 celcius
Aircon is really bad - sweating badly inside the car

Cruising situation -
Outdoor temp - 34 celsius
Intake Air temp - 41 celsius
Engine Coolant temp - 94 celcius
Aircon is so so - ok for 1 person only

Here are my mods:

Mazsport cooling mod - this has pretty much kept my temperature to maximum 95.5 celsius (before it was 102 celsius). My aircon is as good as toyota corolla - last night 4 people inside the car, no one sweating.

Martini Racing Superkool Coolant - this has faster cooling, meaning it lowers my temp faster than using a regular coolant.

Let's share our experience. Thanks!

To check my temp, I am using MSD Dashawk.

to me, it sounds like there's something wrong with your aircon. passengers and drivers should feel cool and not be sweating if it is working fine, even if there were 4 persons in the car in hot weather. temp in singapore is quite hot throughout the year (38 deg cel outside temp is not uncommon).

you can also consider window films to keep the heat down, but more importantly, get your aircon checked/fixed.

Your coolant temp is about right. I also have the mazsport cooling mod but when I bought it, I requested that they set the fan to turn on at 85 deg instead of 90 deg so my temp is about 88 to 92deg on most occasion

Before Mazsport Cooling Fan:
Water Temp : 95-104 C

After Mazsport Cooling Fan:
Water Temp: 85-90 C

Aircond = Much cooler after I reloaded the gas

how old is your car? i reckoned it should be less than 3-4 years? I could be wrong but my understanding is that the root cause could be leakage, there is almost no need to top up freon if there is no leakage, esply for new cars. topping up of freon is normally an interim measure as opposed to finding the leak or replacing the system. my point would be that if it is still under warranty get it fixed, else you MAY have to do the topping quite often.

My car is only 1 year old. There are no warranties for my car because no one in Philippines knows how to service the vehicle - including Mazda. I also believe its a small leak but after topping it off its been fine. Maybe, they forgot to add enough from factory???

actually you still need to top up 2-3yrs. even though its a sealed system and there isnt supposed to be any leaks. there will be still some small amount of loss over time. I thought the same as you before. same with home A/C there is a small loss too. no system is 100% sealed.

mkl22,

I think you're right. I had to put some freon on my house A/C. I think the last time was like 3 years ago.

The mazsport cooling mod does not affect ur aircon. Is to kick the radiator fans in at an earllier temp. go to mazsport website for more info.

The Mazsports website is www.mazsports.net and they are a US based tuning company.

Guess you could order one, install it and then review it for us lor
