sorry..just got home..anyway to answer some of the queries..i live in HDB, Pasir Ris Area. Checked with the neighbourhood police but told me no such big case, small cases as in small area of the car yes. So this has given me the feeling of being targeted. Sigh..also don't know who..police also told me frankly speaking hard to catch.

Went to Sim Lim Sq and ask, whole system of cameras, dvr, cables, etc is about $580. Will be looking around for better system. Must install to nap this a-hole..if i get him, will post his pic so you guys can curse at him.

btw..thanks for the consolation...my energy is channelled to catching this idiot now..

Most of the time crook lives in the same area. Some HDB void deck Ah bengs or kids from school nearby. So its a chance at catching them. I mean which idiot will travel far from home or work to vandalise? Unless its your enemey which is also trackable.

Rumboo: And yes, the sensor is good enough to detect a scratch. I used a black widow unit on my ex-ex-ex car (about 8 years back). Slight jolt a few shrills and major jolt sets off the alarm which rings for about 1 or 2 mins. And its all adjustable. I thinks it will be more advance nowadays.

And i think if you park in a vandal prone area. Its also good to install a scanner (led lights to show you have a alarm), just install a less beng looking one.

Next choice is to stick a police decal, not sure whether it works but alot of my car friends have that. I just hate too many car decals on the windscreen.

I agree that it is usually someone who lives in the same area, but I believe it's still not easy to locate and identify the person from a small grainy photo/video. Whether to install a photo/video security system or not, I leave it to the individual 8 owner to decide if it's really worth it.

I'm sure there are shock sensors that are capable of detecting even a scratch, but I think it will be over-sensitive and the alarm will sound everytime a car with a loud exhaust rumbles pass. It'd be the most unpopular car in your block and everyone will be queuing up to scratch it...

Well, some bad news..

My matah friend sez the police on their own will be unlikely to catch the fella even with the pics, unless he re-offends. Even so, it's not even a criminal case, cos the car is 'private property' (even though it's parked in a public carpark)... it's a civil case, even in a case as jialat as simonakh's. Quite hard to believe.

Still, like sqflyer sez, it's up to the individual owner to determine whether it's worth the money just for the possibility of getting a good image.... and after getting that image, just for the possibility of i/d-ing the bugger, or seeing him again around your area. Personally, i would still install ( if it's not too ugly lah! ), and if i ever see the bugger, i would just tail him to get his address, then pass to police lor. Even if I don't take action, I would at least like to know what the person who vandalised my car looks like.

With some type of system installed, you would at least have the chance of getting him. Like toto -- got buy, damn small chance.. don't buy, damn small chance oso dun haf.

I think you should simply park in a safer place. Beats having any deterent.

I cannot understand that the police will always say "private property" and forget about it. Isn't vandalism illegal whether its private or public property? Sigh... reminds me of something similar and they told me civil case and ask me to sue on my own.

Then again i understand that if they take on every case, they will be severely over worked.

.

I think I would have to disagree on the remarks your police friend make.

I had all my 4 tires deflated (multiple injuries with a Nails ans staples) just 1yr ago. (my car was parked on the side of my house just 2 meters away)

Make a police report, for the next 7 days they had some extra patrol in my area, and was told it was better if I had some security cameras install and if I manage to capture and wrongdoings just submit to the police. (cos we suspect its one of my neighbour who did that due to my dog barking over the previous night)

eh...steady a bit lah...their sister and mother never scratched your car.

i know it is very painful to see your car vandalised but leave them out of it ok.

'yuan you tou....zai you zu'....look for the fella who vandalised your car

I was at Sengkang blk 225A meeting a client when a bloody bunch of **** head kids walked past.

One idiot said: " Wah, so how, want to scratch?"

Then i walked towards my car and drove off.

I did not confront them as i felt there are always such idiots around and they did not scratch anyway.

But while driving i felt a tinge of regret not at least breaking one of their arms.

I also overheard they played basketball nearby. So my theory is right, vandals always hang around the same area.

Hi! Just thought me could reassure all. It IS a criminal offence - jail + caning. Vandalism Act. Classic e.g. - Michael Fay.

It is reassuring. Provided you catch that basta*d first.

Will be more reassured if the law is amended to include public stoning.

Just today got quite a few motorbikes got torch in Sengkang. And so far for the past few arsons, seems like the police have not got the *** yet.

Yo Bro, which part of Sengkang was the Motorbikes torched?
I tink MSCP should have camera installed, not only for ARSONS, for those couple quarrels or commit sucide in the cars etc ... heehee

I think there should be increased public awareness that vandalism/arson carries a jail sentence with complimentary rotan session. Think people will think twice about doing it when they are reminded of the penalties. Then maybe publish some fake news about people getting caught on vehicle's photo/video security system and getting procecuted. Heh heh heh...

We should revive the neighbourhood watch group thing again. And maybe have a patrol around the resident's estate every hour. Not much what. Just take a stroll every hour.

IMO, these arsonist are just a bunch of useless people with nothing better to do. And have stiff penalties are not going to help if they think they will not be caught anyway.

^^^Yah lah, prevention always better than cure..

Haha, even if Michael Fay's vandalism was not criminal, the judge will make it become criminal, because he spray painted Judicial Commissioner Amarjeet Singh's car. What a dumass! :D

Hmm.. I suppose it depends on how your alarm system is wired. Most decent alarm systems either come with door lock/unlock servos (some with optional boot release servo too) or make use of your existing factory central locking system. So you would not need your original remote control anymore, but your original key is still required to start the engine as the key is usually encoded to work with the car's immobiliser.
