Vibration on my Rx8 4AT

hi folks,

need your advise here..

I just bought a resale 8 and it is a 3yrs old car.. but mileage is pretty low (< 20k).

I notice that the vibration of the car when idling is pretty obvious and thus would like to seek your advise on what could be the possible cause...... other than this, the car is great!!

BTW, my car manual is in Jap ... anyone know if it is possible to download the english version from anywhere??

thnka!!

As far as the vibration goes ,it is more than likely the engine mounts. I have experienced this in my car I have now and the one we had before.
The manual, you might try a search in the search box at the top of the page.

It could be the engine mount if you encounter big vibrations...like looking out of your drivers window and seeing the side mirror vibrate...but how bad is your bad? The car will vibrate occasionally when idling...

Most likely your engine mounts have flattened out with age. The previous owner probably didn't even realise it was that bad because it wasn't driven much. Anyway, autos tend to need replacement engine mounts more often than manuals because of the heavier engine/transmission. You can expect to pay about S$400 give or take to replace the mounts.

Yup, cannot be S$200+. It's definitely in the region of S$300+. I'm not qualified to give any precise quotes coz I don't run any workshop so I only provided an estimate of S$400 to be safe. Anything less is a bonus.

No worries, misunderstandings do happen, but we can always try to clarify by asking around. S$200+ quote from MG is definitely for the engine mounts only without labour for installation.

1. MG dun sell engine mounts direct.
2. price definitely not 200+ with labour becos its not an easy job.

hope this clarifies...

did it at riverview. at AMK autopoint. its not that difficult. took less than an hour. Had to wait for the mounts to the engine block to cool. they didnt want to risk stripping the block. bought the mounts at Fong Yat at race course road. actually 90 was a little ex. Tot it 60 would be more reasonable.

thanks to all .. and yes!! It is the engine mount!!

Went to monster today and had it changed... wow man!! the car is now stable like new!! Yippie!! Damm happy now..

and the damange .. it is S$350 .. its original Mazda parts (from japoon)...

taking out the old mount, I can see why it vibrate so much .. it is flattened by at least 5-7mm!!!!

Congrats. When I got my ride last Oct, I know this problem will surface. Thus, I do groundings and voltage stabilizer so that when i ignite, the car will be much smoother and much quieter. It will prolong the life of the engine mount.

Bro, sorry I have to spoil ur party ! I dun tink groundings and stabilizers will in anyway help or prolong ur engine mount, tat few seconds of engine crank doesn't contribute much to the wear n tear of your mount, rather the heat factor is the main culprit. Rubber oxidized faster when heat is presence, with oil in your mount the viscosity will also be affected.

Cheers ! juz sharing !

i got to agree with zavhan on this. grounding n voltage DOES NOT prolong the engine mounts.. when u ignite, or rather crank, or when u rev hard, it vibrates as well. putting in VS or grounding, the engine will still vibrate. Good for other issues, but definitely not the engine mounts.

The mounts are made of rubber, and it hardens bcos of heat...
