Top Speed
Hi... anyone tried what's the top speed on their 8 ? I tried dragging till 8000 rpm and flooring the accelerator but max speed i could reach was about 190kmph and that was already on my 6th. what's the optimum rpm to change gear? but one thing, this car is one steady car... going at 190 and taking it so well...
proud of my 8 |
wah! the highest i reached is 160 on my auto. seeing the scenery flash by at that speed, my balls shrunk and decided to release pedal. heeheehee.... dont want to gamble with my life inorder to know the top speed, i rather someone else does it and tell me. heh!
|
yes u r right...it was very dangerous and silly of me to have done that. i wasn't testing the top speed.. it's dangerous la, i admit it.. :(
but... ok..no buts..but |
well rainne,
the top speed is electronically limited to 248km/h. If urs' JDM which i think it is, the 187km/h is a japan restriction which limits the speed of the car as such...sad rite? anyways, welcome to the 187 club (JDM). i noe not all have hit that yet, in singapore at least...heh Cheers |
Neon, i see 245km/h, but feel unstable & back off, i think u should be ok with 500km/h since your job require u to do that.
|
u cheat, u saw 245 up north not in singapore....hehe

Yeah, sad but true. First thing after I ran-in my car was to try the limit and true enough, once reached 185-187km/hr it cut off. Had to try it late at night at a long stretch of expressway though. :p
|
Oh, another thing, I'm surprised you need to ram 8000rpm at 6th gear to get 190km/hr. Cause when I floored it and hit 185km, the rpm wasn't so high. Interesting... Usually the high revs (7k-8k) are high using lower gears. At least that's what I experienced, I may be inexperience though. :p

proud of my 8 anyway, back to ur question... is urs a JDM 6 speed? or from MM? Tink urs from MM rite? MM cars still can go beyond 200km/h |
:) US cars have no electronic Speed limiter. :)
Fuel Cut, 6th Gear = about 185mph. IF the car had enough power to reach it. :D |

yes mine is from MM. i didn't dare to launch too hard on 1st, cos i tried once and the car skidded. i still haven't figured out the optimum point on my 1st so i lost on the launching part and pulled till 5000-6000 rpm changed to 2nd. 2nd hit 7000+ then change. i haven't really tested to hit 8000 and above. scared my car cry. by the time hit 5th, already at about 175+, didn't know can still continue dragging so changed to 6th, already flooring accelerator but can't get past 190. i think shld've held onto 5th for a while longer...not sure if that makes a diff

all said, this car road handling is fantastic...i'm really impressed. :D
some cars can start to feel the vibration at 160 up and get the "floating" feeling, nope not my 8 !!! |
The theoretical top speed in 6th up is about 300 kph (or 185 mph as mentioned by dmp) at the approx 9300 rpm fuel cutoff point. That's theoretical based on the gearing ratio but you would need a lot of road and perhaps a downslope and a tailwind assistance to attain. I think this car had been time at 248 kph max in the magazines.
Through the gears I have hit 9500 rpm and fuel cutoff in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. No time to look at the speedo but i think at a glance it was well over 160 kph in 3rd. Ran out of road to max out 4th gear. My JDM has speed limiter of 180 kph. I have not hit that yet to be honest. The fun is in the intoxicating rev to 9500 rpm and feeling the smooth acceleration as well as in enjoying the sharp and balanced handling. I had thought about overiding the speed limiter but have now forgotten about it. Stay safe and enjoy. :) -Ringer- |
and remember them handbrakes....:):):)

din koe RX8 top speed so low until i watch the japanese documentary on RX8 type S... top speed ard 187 km/h...Mazda 3 GT top speed is approx.190km/h... can't believe its sooo slow cos i expected it to be at least 200km/h =X Think i'm expecting too much out of my car =X

Pretty sure MM's 8 can go faster than 180kph, my friend did 200 when we went for the test drive, limited by the corner coming up.
Also there were 3 souls on board. He'll never test drive my car tat's for sure. :D |
Hi...sorry to ask a stupid question... does opening the windows add resistance to the car? how abt the 0-100? can 2nd gear reach 100 or better to use 3rd? if 3rd, maybe best time is about 8 secs ?
|
OMG,
let me clarify this once n for all! JDM or MM's top speed is gonna be about the same >240++ ish. And this speed is also not the best speed the engine can give, it is electronically limited by Mazda for safety or wadever reason. The only difference is in the rated HP. 250 and 238 for later, reason's due to emission standards for Euro thus the detune. OK? everybody clear now? For speed-cut, there is a law in Japan that requires their car to be speed limited<----- doesnt mean it cannot go above as the manufacturer simply programmed their ECU to cut power at that speed... and the speed is 187 for JDM. OK? clearer now? MM's euro is not affected by this...thus definitely can go faster then 187... OKOKOKOK??? Rainne, yes lowering windows will affect your performance of the car due to drag. cars that lower their windows on track cannot perform as well if their windows are up. And yes, 2nd gear can reach 100. i got 105 but buzzer is up..... Cheers P.S. ppl please read more about the car or read earlier post before posting....doh ( sori if i sound harsh....) PEACE :) |
lol... chill Neon bro... :D
chris, JDM 8s are limited to 187km/h b'coz they were meant for the Japanese domestic market and therefore had to be electronically limited due to their domestic legislation. MM 8s are Euro spec meant for the European market, which does not have a speed limit restriction and are therefore not electronically limited at 187km/h. However, more stringent emissions standards require detuning the engine to 238hp. Our 8s are definitely capable of more than 187km/h if they are not electronically limited, so you can continue to expect more of your 8. Rainne, 2nd gear on our 8s can definitely reach >100km/h. If you use 3rd gear for 0-100 timing, it will definitely be slower because of an additional gear shift. |

No,
PIs bring in both FE32s n SE3Ps...... And MM only bring in 6speed Euro = FE32. Cheers |
