Is there a problem with PI auto RX8s?

Hey guys, I heard from a friend who was told by a Mazda authorised dealer that the reason they don't bring in the auto is because it is not made for Singapore weather and therefore the gearbox will get overheated easily and the car will breakdown. Quote him saying " there are currently 2 auto 8s in a workshop waiting for hard to find spares to repair the auto gearbox". Any truths in this guys? Please give your honest comments... Thanks!!!

Sounds like a bunch of crap from the authorised dealer... If thats the case, all the auto 8s in Australia will have died during their summer time... they are just trying to convince people to buy their manual 8s.

Parts-wise, some PI workshops may find it more diificult to obtain but this is not unique to the auto 8.

If it is truly said by the MM dealer, then that the lowest thing the guy said (it may/may not be MM policy but as a rep of MM, that fellow sucks!). What a load of bull!
Every make of car has a bad day. Heard the BMW 7 series on the news some time back? Wonder if the auto gear box of the BMW is suitable for our weather??
That fellow must be real desperate to convince himself of this statement and if the 8 autobox has problems, workshops here will be full of them liao since there are so many auto 8s in spore hahaha.

Sad to see this continues...

Me visited MM when the RX was first out (yeah - me itchy as usual, now more so since me retired!) Rep, after ogling me X, told me that the auto gearbox is DEFECTIVE and so MM doesn't sell it. She even wished me good luck!?!

jo8hu8: To answer - me have been VERY lucky since!!! :D Problems, yes. But NOT with the gearbox. Me not aware of any auto RXs in the workshop cos of gearbox prob. Maybe u wanna ask MM to ID? :D

just to add on, think obj is to convince you to buy from them and not PIs. probly one of the "top 10" answers to question of why MM does not bring in auto gearbox. my answer to the same question posed to my sales rep was that boss of MM was of the view that rx8 is a sports car and did not believe in bring a "de-tuned" rx8 (ie the auto version).

separately, most buyers are not aware of the inherent risks of buying car. if the company (that would include MM, just that credentials in that respect slightly better compared with most PIs) were to become insolvent, there would be problem clawing back the deposit... buy from a reputed PI, think bros can help recommend (think there are some threads on this).

btw i got mine from MM.

Hey guys, I really appreciate your responses. I got my auto 8 from PI (cos me wife can't handle manual but also because i am a leisure driver :D ) and thought it was great. Later, one of my acquaintances said "good luck" to me because of this supposedly rumour from the MM guy. I personally felt it can't be true either but it really made me felt quite crap after hearing it. I dont think it very nice of him to spread such rumours.. ( the MM guy even tried to prove his point by showing photos of the breakdown 8s from the workshop) Such rumours will only make us Auto 8 owners feel as if we got a second rated 8 which is pure bullshit.
Anyway, b4 i got my auto 8, I went to authorised dealer and the MM guy also gave me some stupid excuses about why they don't bring in the auto. But at the end of the day, if the auto is such a good deal ( i guess maybe 50% of 8s in SG are auto? ) then why don't the authorise dealer bring it in ???

MM probably couldnt get Mazda Japan to allocate some auto 8s to them initially, so they try these kind of tactics. Now that they have slagged the auto so much, it will be probably too embarassing for them to bring it in as they will have to eat their words...

Forget about it, jo8hu8, and enjoy your car!

I am enjoying every min of the car manz :D But lately, I have been trying to control cos the 8 drinks petrol like the way I drink beer :D. Anyway i got this problem lately, when i step on my brakes, i feel a slight but noticable rough vibration from my front wheels like they are skidding on rough terrain.. i hope nothing is wrong.
