I am thinking of suspension tweaks too but it seems to me that the 8s suspension is quite well tuned already. From what i have read in the main forums, it seems better to get sway bars and such rather than replace the whole suspension.

Emperor, I share the same sentiments. A lot of people change aftermarket parts thinking it's definitely better than stock components, but not knowing the implications. Most products are good for specific purposes but few are good all around. D2 and most other performance shocks are quite hard. They may be good for hard driving and decent for track use, but can get rather uncomfortable for everyday street use. Vanquish, I think you better consider very carefully about changing shocks since you have wife and kid to fetch around. Mazda put a lot of R&D into the RX-8 and stock components are already quite good. That's why we pay premium $$ for it compared to other cars.

Always remember the 3 factors... drivability, comfort, noise. How willing are you to sacrifice some or all of it for performance? You can have the lightest flywheel and grippiest clutch, but suffer the poor drivability during slow traffic or parking. The hardest track suspension is actually worse than stock suspension for normal everyday street driving, not to mention very uncomfortable. The most free flowing exhaust may give you a decent increase in power, but can you live with the droning noise? The more hardcore you are, the more sacrifices you may be willing to make, but just be aware and jump in with both eyes open. Don't just follow blindly. It's ok to get poisoned, just make sure it doesn't kill you.

As always, flyer is right on the 3 points....

Comfort..... if you choose too stiff a suspension, prepare for some bowel loosening.

Super street Tiens for me...

To me suspension is a basic mod, unless you drive your 8 to work and then home, stock suspension is comfort. When you lowered your car, you got to memorise which road must avoid, where got big bumps. This is my opinion.

Any idea if the super street is height adjustable?

I'm using Super Street, quite comfy if you set your suspension softer. When you go over the bumps, your undercarriage will tend to scratch the bump cos the spring is not hard enuff. Try to get a spring with 7kg rate front to avoid this or go super slow.

In that case I guess u will just have to spend much more.

The Tanabe ProSeven with controller is $4000 , and the computer within the controller will automatically change the hardness of the suspensions according to the car speed.
The Faster the car goes the harder the suspension is automatically adjusted.
It only takes less than 0.5 secs from the softest to Max hardness.

Morgan: That's it! If wanna change shocks, need to get very good ones that can adjust on the fly so it's good for every situation. But even if I had $4K+ to spend on shocks, the Tanabe Pro7 is not yet available for the RX-8 the last time I checked. Their website may advertise it, but it's not available if you really try to order it. So stock suspension will do nicely for me for now.

spending money to upgrade components on the 8 is not necessarily good unless it involves indecent sums of money.

IMO most parts of the 8 are very good already. To me i think this is the best value buy i ever made for a car.

Lucky its not avaible yet.

Cos I almost paid for a set last mth when I was at Jeep Chee. I thought that I could get it in Aug, and almost pay for it.

Its only when the boss gave a call to Japan and he found out that it will only be availible in Nov.

Come to think of it, I don't really need the $4k Suspension, cos I don't race and the original suspensions is consider very hard when compare to those Stocks WRX ,
I think I'm "SICK", just wanted to spend some money.

Ha ha... I'm glad we share the same thoughts on this. Like I said, consider carefully before modding with aftermarket parts. Not everything is good for the RX-8 in every situation and some are even downright bad in every situation! Don't simply assume that all aftermarket products are gotta be better than the stock components.

Thanxs for the reminder bro... just me bad habit... always a case of trying to do too much too soon....

Anyway, one of the mods I always wanted is to lower the car, but have been held back due to various reasons like comfort, height ( inconvenience ), cost etc etc...

So, will take ur advise and take my time to consider... but if I kanna 4D tmr... that's a different story!! :D

if u r on a budget, tein super street shld suffice..... D2 shld be a tad too hard for u. Another option cld be the tein flex, however that wld cost more than super street.

I always maintain that Tein has always been the most value-for-money shocks for all makes across the board and i tink this is still so true.

Aragosta.... anyone??? :D :D :D
