Somes queries on the 6AT 07 model
Hi guys, guess im the latest newbie on the block. just got my black 6AT today...hehe...Nice meeting you guys..my name is Des by the way.
just a few questions to ask, can some kind soul help me along the way?
1) Did anyone of you tried to use the IPOD output from the stock head unit? Cuz apparently the dealer said the new RX8s cant do output to ipod and control from steering.
2) How long do you guys warm up your engines? Do you guys wait for the airbag light to go off before igniting the engine?
3)is 2000km enough for running in the engine?
Thanks for your help guys....

Congrats on getting ur virgin 8.
1) Yes, get Audio Link for RX-8. Can be controlled from steering wheel. Dealer doesn't know what he/she is talking about.
2) Using a guide a borrowed from airplanes, I warm up the engine until the oil temp needle reaches the bottom of the scale. Just makes plane sense (pardon the pun) that you should not really operate the engine unless the oil temp is at least at the minimum indication on the oil temp gauge. If in a hurry, I coast on idle throttle roughly when the oil temp needle starts to move. I wait for the airbag light.
3) Manual says 1000km, I think. So 2000km is plenty. MM does the 1st oil change at 5000km which does not make much sense. I think that if run in period is 1000km then you should also change your oil at 1000km after run-in. Try to stay on mineral oil for the first few oil changes though.
My 2 rupees.

Welcome onboard Des..........I'm pretty new here too....Just gotten my black 6AT last week. reference to your question number 2, I will usually wait till the blinking of the engine light stops before cranking.
Kind of found out that 6AT is a little different when it comes to the engine search...
After turning your ignition to "on" mode for around 20 sec, you'll see your engine light blinking (8 Blinks) and hence was told that this is when the com is doing the full scan. After which it will be safe for the crank start.....
I kind of sum it up after gathering information from others.......Not sure if it would harm the system if we choose to start prior to the scan???? But, I wont take chance la......
You might want to do the same, otherwise just ignore my theory.......
Cheers

Want to ask everyone something related to the new 6 speed auto. Would its car body price 3 years down the road be different from the 4 speed auto? for the matter, anyone knows what is the current market rate for its body, be it for export/scrap? I've been asking around from PI to MM and got a full range from 12k to 20k, don't know what to make out of it.

The DSC for the Type E 6AT, under what kind of circumstance does it help a driver? I dont think day to day home to office commuting you can feel its effects? Just trying to rationalise between getting a basic and a Type E. Comments?

Bro, you buy from PI, warranty maciam a joke lah. anyways, this is not MM so doesn't mean that mod means 100% no warranty. dun put turbo lor, do safe mods like exhoz, intake.
also no matter what your PI servicing shop say, stick only to Shell Helix mineral, or Rotary-specific synthetics fr RE, Trust, Idemitsu, HKS and RMagic. DO NOT use Mobil 1 or Royal Purple
