Hey folks! YES! I have gotten the SMS remote start car alarm UP AND RUNNING!

How it works :

1) SMS to remotely start car engine
2) SMS to remotely immoblise car engine
3) Car SMS to tell if doors; attempts on opening of car or car battery removal is done.

Time took : 7 days (Hee I the first to do it in Singapore according to the vendor, that's why the time taken to trouble shoot)

Costs : About $1,500 (Since I the first, the shop doesnt know how to quote me but confirmed will be alot more for future installations)

Conclusion : Well worth the time and money!

Yes that's correct. I put another SIM card inside. The alarm will be sounded and an SMS will be send to inform that the car is being towed.

So which brand/model of alarm did you get eventually? And they have a local vendor?

I know. I decided to use the local machines because I can save on the shipping costs and well, customer service support would definitely be more readily available than internet isnt it?

So how is it working? Monitor and keep us posted. A weblink to the product or vendor would be nice so we can check it out ourselves. If good thing, must share mah. I looked up a few different SMS alarm systems a long time back and literally every installer I asked said such systems are damn problematic which put me off the idea.

ya lor must share. one question: - how it can mobilise and immobilise with the mazda immobiliser in place? does it mean the system can communicate with the mazda immobiliser? or is it that your car does not have immobiliser or the original immobiliser disabled? thanks!

I am currently wiring my car pc now since the SMS remote start car alarm is now completed. And trust me - it worked so well, I have been SMSing it to start the car just to see the reaction of other people who is amazed that my 8 starts with no driver!

Anyway what you meant, I supposed - is how does it worked? Okie. Let me do a quick run down here since I have to get up early tomorr to finish the wiring of the car pc after which I will take some pics.

The SMS remote start car alarm is not 1 single piece of equipment. It is actually 2. 1st, of course, will be the car alarm. P.S. I am not using the system that I have posted in the earlier posting because they dont provide local support. You can basically use any car alarm but take note - a cheap and insensitive car alarm that only sound when the car is driven is not recommended. Imagine when your window is smashed and things are stolen and the alarm just sleep like a baby. What's the point of that? So invest in a good one like Steelmate.

2nd equipment is relatively rare in the consumer market because it is usually used for more expensive commerical purpose like warehouse. This is the SMS gateway device that detects electrical impurses (in this case, a car alarm) from low to high and triggers pre-set SMS to desired telephone numbers.

I have wired mine in this fashion :

1) Car battery , left door, right door is tampered with or windows smashed, SMS will be send
2) Remote start engine and immoblise (as explained)
3) Status check my car by SMSing to the device. This is good because sometimes, you dont remember if you arm your car so you can check the status from this.

Really, the only way to know whether this system is good for you is to see it for yourself. But beware - the costs will be a lot higher since I am probably the first to wired the system correctly. Now that we know how complex it can gets, there will definitely be a premium for this device. Think of all the golfing trip you can make to Malaysia with lesser worries that your 8 will be towed away without your knowledge.

I will most definitely bring my 8 down in the next gathering and demostrate this system

This is the beautiful part - now when I am in my office and I need to cool my car, I send an SMS. So the car starts and the air-con start running but without the original key, NO ONE can drive off with my car even though it has started. What I did was to place my second immobiliser key and hotwired to the car so that it can start remotely. Beautiful isnt it? Took the mechanic 3 days just to get it to work with remote start SMS

Good to know it's simple to use. Using 2nd key to bypass immobiliser is not new. My only concern is how reliable or problematic it is, coz it's an alarm system afterall. Cost is not a concern as it's not intended for installation on RX-8 anyway. Any weblinks to this product or vendor?

BTW, having a GSM alarm doesn't really mean can worry less in Malaysia coz it doesn't mean your car won't get towed/stolen, it just means you'll know when it happens. If you're far enough away from your car, you still can't stop the them.

Yes. To remote start and stop the car, of course you would need a 2nd key to bypass. Any other methods would probably equivalent to a thief stealing your car already .

As explained - There's no official vendor in Singapore that sells the whole system. What I did was purchase the devices seperately and installs them.

Well, there's really no alarm system as foolproof as keeping your eyes on your 8 24/7. A GSM car alarm simply gives you the edge over a conventional car alarm by providing the extra boast of distance coverage anywhere in the world with roaming. So I believe any car owners would rush to their car upon receiving an alert SMS, that would definitely be better than not even knowing your car has been stolen in the first place.

An additional information if I have forgotten to mention - this SMS car alarm not only immobilises your car. It is able to provide the coordinates of your car in Malaysia .

I would definitely! With local authorities help of course . Imagine when you go to the police and they asked where's your car now. And you replied - "I dont know". What do you think they can do then?

That's pretty much my point - that with or without the system, I still wouldn't park my 8 anywhere "unsafe/unguarded" in M'sia.

Don't think you explained that there is no official vendor in Singapore. In fact, you said:

So if there is no link to the product and no link to the official vendor, then where did you get it the items and where did you install it? If you don't wish to share the info, then what is your purpose of posting this thread?

When I posted my query here, I am as clueless as you are rite now, maybe even more. But internet is the best friend here and that's how I did my research and experimentations.

If you find the information given is too vague, you can always do what I do and research around and find out for yourself.

FYI, I dont like to spoon feed people who "demands". Just ask nicely and the world will smile a bit more.

Let me check through the tons of web materials for the info you "politely" asked for. Since this is not a single unit, there are lots backdrop work and devices that have to be included to make the entire system work. And there are those devices that I have bought and have to be thrown out because they just doesnt work together with the SMS system. So have a bit of patience when I go through the materials. It is not ez to trial and error.

I'm sorry if I am not "polite" enough in asking you for information to the level of "politeness" that you expect. If you deem my request as "demands", then please kindly ignore them as I never like to impose and trouble people beyond that which they are willing to do.

Most, if not all, of us come to this forum to share and learn from one another. The "pioneers" or "old birds" here have spent their own time, money and effort modding their rides and willingly share their experience to the newer guys. Some even go as far as to start a review website on their experiences. Is that considered spoon feeding?

Actually, since your system sounds so futuristic, so high-tech and so complicated for a simple person like me, I think I better look for an easier all-in-one package. Let other more technically inclined members ask you politely for the details. Thanks for "sharing" about your expensive GSM SMS GPS tracking alarm system.

XMatrix, could you post sources contacts so those that are interested know where and how to get it? i for one - if this system is kosher - would love to have it in my ride. since it's already installed, perhaps the shop which did it for you will have that residual experience to replicate other installs.

Currently tied up with work and trying to get my car pc to work. That's why hasnt the time to post here. I have been in contact with the installer; when they start on installing this, they didnt know they had to work on this for 7 days, that's why they charge me only $400 installation. So literally they are running a loss just installing this. I am not sure whether they intend to do it again.

But fear not, I may be able to get someone to install it. I am working on it. Once I have the exact costs. I shall let you folks know.

It would be helpful to let me know which bros and sis are interested to bring down the costs.

Let's form a name list for that who are interested :

1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
