Shell Helix Super

I'm intending to use shell helix super bcos:

1. It is a mineral oil
2. 0.5l bottle is available at any shell outlet - easy for top up
3. It is cheap
4. It has remain unchanged after so many years, must be quite stable

The only thing I'm not confortable with is the viscosity bcos our owner's manual states 5W20. But bcos we don't have winter, do we really need such a low viscosity.

And I've been using Fully Synth (Castrol RS) for so many years. Quite difficult to just switch to mineral oil bcos deep down in my heart, I still trust Fully Synth.

Anyway just a show of hands who's using Shell helix super now.

i think our manual recommend 0w30 rather than 0w20
i used shell 10w30 before and found that the car is not as smooth and lost its power and noisy, i changed to 10w40 semi split fire, i can feel the engine is getting harder to work, but power gain but noisy. when i changed my engine oil to 0w30 blitz mineral. the car is more powerful (not as powerful as 10w40, but smoother and not as hot) and more quiet. i think its due to the viscocity of the oil.

lets not forget the function of our engine oil. lets forget about the winter figure, the 1st figure of the oil actually give us earlier protection for the engine than oil starts with 10W.
and those oil which is over W40 might not pass the API standard which might not 100% pass through the oil filter. so check before u buy.

had this problem before, top up full 10w40 engine oil, after few weeks and one day i drive for a while. check dip stick, and found that minimum engine oil in car, so i add in new 0w30 just added 1litre + (full tank 4 litre) and found that my dip stick actually shown over max level, this might have been cause by bigger oil molecule that could not pass through the oil filter. when other oil is mixed the oil become thin.

Any bros out there know which Shell station carry the Shell Helix Super? I can't seem to find it in the Shell station in Sengkang and Thompson. The only ones I saw are not the 5W20 type. Are the guys who're using Helix Super using the 5W20 type? Thanks in advance.

Hi Bro, so is it alrite to use for the 8? I read that the 20W in the rating is meant for winter. As there is no winter here, is it safe for our engine even though the last rating is 50? Are all the bros who're using the Shell Helix Super using this rating as well? Thanks in advance.

Thanks to all the bros here for the fast reply. Is it true that if I want to rev higher occasionally, it is better to go synthetic?

not true..... its ur personal preference. Some choose the oil based on price. Some based on quality. Some think price vs practicability, go for cheaper option. end of the day, go for something that u tink is value for money.....
