Hi

Then it is easy. Lots of good woofers around, add a pair of tweeters and get a moderate amp (will not take up much space). Simple setup and sound good. I'm sure Manwe Bro can recommend some nice speakers. Amp can source for trade in unit cos u won't need super amps as there is no sub to drive.
My thoughts.

If you are only adding a single sub unit then you don't have to worry abt the amp as you don't need such a high current to drive the speakers. For those who dunno how amps work, basically the speakers are just magnets and they rely on current supplied to it to cause a force(remember your physics?). What the amp does is magnify the current so that it is big enough to drive the speakers(small current produce very little force and sound). Good amps will have better signal to noise ratio when magnified(yes noises get magnified together with audio signal too) but if your speakers are not top grade, then you do not need very good amps as you will not hear the diff(cos the speaker is not sharp enough to cut off the noise). So do not get speakers too good for your amp nor get amps too good for your speakers or you will be wasting money. Another thing, do not get very very high end product unless you want to change the stock Head Unit or it will not give you optimum quality(another waste of money cos you cannot hear the diff).

By the way, different speakers have different qualities and is suited for different kind of music. You have to tell me what kind of music you normally listen to be4 I can give recommendation.

hi have a qns here... i believe a 15" sub-woofer can fit into your booot correct? so can a 12" the maximum here to get into your boot or can it be bigger? with a 15" & a small box is quite stupid right? (correct me if i'm wrong)

watoke 12-19-2004 08:57 AM

Woot,

15" is too big for our 8 boot, if it is standing and also in a small little box. But again, if you willing to compromise on the space, lying down will enable you a 15"and a bigger box.
Honestly speaking, 12" is really good enuff with a good 1/2 channel amps to drive it.
I got my 8 from MM, i remove all front and rear speakers. Change to front 6.5" components speakers & rear 6.5" coxial speaker, drive by a 4 channel amps, and 2 channels amps drives a 12" Sub.
Overall, definitely better than the pathetic MM original oval shape speakers.

Manwe 12-19-2004 01:39 PM

Infact, I think 10" is enough. Have a pair. Better ;)

I was trying to squeeze in 2 12" but decided against it in the end. Don't want my boot to fall off...

2 12" or 10" with box can fit snugly in the small odd shape place in the deep end of the boot.
